OL = Olympic style weightlifting (note correctly spelled as 1 word) - Ideally, the term WL should be used as weightlifting is the correct name for the sport. However more people will understand Olympic lifting as it is the iron-sport contested in the Olympic Games. Weightlifting consists of two events - the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk.

IMO = short for "in my opinion". If you're lazy like me it's a lot easier to write IMO.

Good Mornings = A training exercise that begins standing (usually taken from a rack) with a barbell held high on the back (same position as a back squat) - the lifter then performs the lift by flexing at the hip, thus eccentrically controlling the bar downward. Note that the knees should remain slightly flexed throughout and the back muscles (spinal extensors) are working extremely hard in an isometric fashion to maintain the spine in its so called "neutral" position, while the hip extensors (hamstrings/gluteus maximus - and to a certain extent the ankle plantar flexors) work dynamically to carry out the movement. The lifter should attempt to maintain a normal lumbar curve throughout the exercise. Athletes with good hamstring flexibility should be able to achieve a horizontal trunk position without loosing the above mentioned back position. If the lifter lacks adequate hamstring flexibility, the lowering movement should only continue to that point in which any additional lowering of the barbell would require flexion of the spine. Immediately upon reaching the bottom position, the lifter then returns to the starting position via concentric hip extension while the trunk extensors remain working iosmetrically. Many coaches (including myself) feel that this is an excellent exercise for strengthening the hip/trunk extending musculature for improved pulling strength/power in the snatch and clean & jerk, however some might argue that it (as well as the RDL) may disrupt normal pulling patters. IMO, the GM is an excellent assistant exercise for OL :)

I found this glossary online, see how many you can add to this list:

Leukemia Glossary of Terms

Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC)

Common blood cell count measured after stem cell transplant. Neutrophils are

responsible for a large part of the body's protection against infection.

Allele

Two or more forms of a gene. A single allele for each gene location is inherited

from parents. For example, at the gene location for hair color, the allele might

result in black or brown hair. Alleles are important in molecular HLA typing

(See HLA).

Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant

Any bone marrow/blood stem cell transplant in which the cells come from another

person rather than the patient's own cells. The donated cells can come from a

related or unrelated donor.

Anemia

A condition where not enough oxygen gets to the tissues and the organs because

of too few red blood cells in the blood.

Apheresis

A procedure where blood is drawn from a patient's or donor's arm and circulated

through a machine that removes certain cells such as stem cells, white blood

cells or platelets. The rest of the blood is returned to the patient or donor.

Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant

A bone marrow/blood stem cell transplant in which the patient's own cells are

used.

Blast Cells

Cells that are not fully formed.

Blast Crisis

The stage of chronic myelogenous leukemia when large amounts of blast cells are

found in the blood.

Blood Stem Cells

Cells found in the blood that can grow into a red blood cell, a white blood cell

or a platelet. Also called hematopoietic stem cells. (See also, Stem Cells and

Embryonic Stem Cells).

Bone Marrow

A spongy tissue inside of large bones where the body's blood cells (red cells,

white cells and platelets) are made.

DR Typing

HLA typing to determine the HLA-DR determinants carried or expressed by a donor

or patient. HLA-DR typing is almost exclusively performed by DNA-based methods.

(See Prospective HLA-DR typing.)

Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD)

A condition where the transplanted donor marrow or blood stem cells attack the

patient's body. GVHD can be mild or serious and is sometimes life threatening.

Leukapheresis

The process of separating white blood cells from the rest of the blood. (See

Apheresis.)

Myelofibrosis

A disease that causes scar tissue to form in the bone marrow. As a result of the

scar tissue, normal blood cell production is blocked. Normal blood cell

production then moves to the spleen which then becomes enlarged. Anemia results

because blood production in the spleen does not work as well as in the bone

marrow.

Neutrophil

A type of white blood cell. The number of neutrophils present in the bloodstream

is often used as a measure of stem cell engraftment.

A lack of understanding of what's in store, the unknown, and what's next should

be met by thoughtful, straightforward, and frequent discussions between

physician, nurse, patient and family. An inability to work, tend to business

affairs, care for one's family, and interact with friends in the usual manner,

all contribute to emotional distress.

Manufacturers of Benzene Products

Generally, the greatest amount of compensation can be recovered from the

manufacturers of benzene products. Medical financial help for the cancer patient

and the family is often made possible by these efforts, which can be in the

millions of dollars. For more information on how to obtain Medical Financial Aid

and cancer financial aid help, the form below contact us at 1 800-923-6376
