Guest guest
Hi all, I have a 14 yr old with severe autism and being 14, we're dealing with puberty. He's having horrible mood swings and the frustration for him is intense at times. I've been giving him a valerian/passion flower/skullcap/hops/chamomile combo and it helps some. I bought some Kava at the HFS-the label says " promotes peaceful relaxation, reduces stress & frustration " and that just seemed like a dream come true. But when I got home, I saw the warning label about the FDA and a potential risk of rare but severe liver injury and not for persons under 18 yrs of age. I tried to find more info on this but haven't been able to. Does anyone know why the FDA felt it was necessary to decide this? Why is it not for persons under 18? He's about 5'2 " and weights maybe 100 lbs. The capsules are from Pharma Kava and 60 mg.(I have been using tinctures but they seemed to be becoming less effective and I was getting worried about the alcohol). I would like to know what happened to who that made the FDA decide we needed this on the label. Who had liver damage and how was it determined that Kava was the cause? Thanks, Ann
