The irritability you ask about is a VERY common side effect. It is a part of the depression that can be caused by both the interferon and the ribavirin. When I was on treatment my whole family learned to stay out of my way! I would actually go around and LOOK for things to bitch about. And I knew I was doing it, but I just couldn't make myself stop!!! Which of course made me feel even worse. I'm surprised my husband didn't divorce me. My doctor offered me anti-depressants, but I was very stubborn and refused to take them. It wasn't until I was about 10 months into treatment that I realized how awful I was to be around when we went on vacation with my Dad, and I ruined the whole trip for everyone with my irritability and moodiness. I kept hearing (over and over again) my husband telling my dad, " it's the medications making her this way! " I was still too stubborn to ask my doctor for an antidepressant, so I started taking St. 's Wort. It helped quite a bit, but if/when I try a treatment (I'm a non-responder) again I will probably ask about an antidepressant when I begin. I don't want to put my family through that again. I am irritable enough even when I'm not on treatment!! LOL! Let your doctor know what is going on. You might want to think about taking an antidepressant. So what 'natural' things did you try before deciding to do treatment? Do you know your genotype? Take care, Claudine __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Tatezi, Welcome to the group. Yes, irritability, is a side effect, I think we all will agree on that. Thanks for the tip on the Ginger Ale. You have a place here to vent your frustrations, if need be. Also a lot of nice helpful people to help you manage your treatment................Welcome Again, Connie __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Tatezi.. nice to meet you! I'm on my 6th month of combo. I would get on an antidepressant real fast. I always recommend to other heppers to try an anti d before starting treatment, as interferon is a known depressant, and irritability is part of that. They sure have helped me a lot. I went thru 3 before finding the right one - Zoloft, which was ok for me but made me feel dull, Celexa, which didn't seem to do anything, and Effexor XR which seems to be perfect. They even help me sleep. alley/ ICQ 12631861 alleypat@... http://www.flash.net/~alleypat
Guest guest
Tatezi, Welcome to the list! There are a great group of people here to hold your hand, give you moral support and who are just plain there for you. I was on treatment for the month of September but was pulled off until they can run some tests on Wednesday. I have been EXTREMELY CRABBY lately. Guess we can blame the good old TX!! Anyway, try to stay positive, and let us know how you are doing and feeling. There are a lot of people here who really, truely understand. Stay positive, Lora
Guest guest
Welcome Tatezi, The " irritability " you speak of is pretty common. During treatment I would classify my behavior as near homicidal. The guys I work with would cut a wide swath around me when they saw that bestial aura come over me that only rebetron can create. Unfortunately this is one of the sides of treatment. It was the hardest side for me to deal with, but I did and you can too. I have been off treatment now for a couple of months and I feel fine now. A lot of people say antidepressants have really helped them, you may look into that. Bob Greetings > Hello everyone... > > My name is Tatezi and I'm new to your list. Guest guest
Tatezi, Welcome to the group! Irritability must be in the air as a lot of people seem to have it lately. what is your genotype? , glad to hear about not so many sides from the tx, that alone is wonderful if its manageable, which I guess we all are managing with it, no other choice really. lol are you on an antidepressant? I think it helps with the irritablility even though i've only been on it about a week now, I am in my 34 week of treatment so coming to the end yeah, just hoping and praying that it works. welcome again Suzy From: Tatezi <tatezi@...> Reply-Hepatitis Cegroups Hepatitis Cegroups Subject: Greetings Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2000 09:39:29 -0700 Hello everyone... My name is Tatezi and I'm new to your list. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and have been in treatment for three months. I held off on treatment for a long time tyring natural methods, but my counts kept going slowing higher so I conceded to the rebetron treatments. Had a problem finding a doctor to treat me when I decided to go on rebetron. Apparently the first liver guy I saw was punishing me for trying natural methods first and wouldn't allow me treatment. They do so like to think they are gods controlling our lives. But I took all my records and test results and found someone who would treat me. I've been pretty fortunate with side effects to the rebetron. Haven't really been sick and the fatigue level is manageable. As long as I can continue working I can handle whatever comes my way...but the bills have to be paid and my 11 cats need to be cared for. I've found that ginger ale works miracles for the metallic taste in my mouth...and I tried a lot of different things. But the one thing I'm really having problems with is irritability. Don't know if this is a known side effect but since it only started about a month ago I'm guessing that it is. So I'm glad to find you folks to share this experience with. Guest guest
, Great to see you post. I hadn't realized that you were new to the Charlotte Area. Glad to hear that your off all your meds that you took prior to your MGB. Please post again soon with an update! Kathy Goodman klg@... Patient Representative CLOS Office phone 704-871-0031 Cell 704-682-1723 Greetings Hi! I have been reading the posts for about two months. I had my dance with Dr. R on 10/24. I just wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone for all of the support and information I have gotten from their posts. It has been an amazing experience. Everything has gone so smoothly and the results are already incredible. I am feeling better than I have in years. My name is Lease. I live south of Charlotte, NC. My family just moved here in July and I discovered Dr. R in July also. I cannot believe my luck. I would never have found him while I was in MI and I did not want the surgery they did up there. The MGB was perfect for me. I am feeling great and off all the meds I was taking before. I even have energy to do things now. I am still unpacking and trying to decorate the house. I hope to go back to work in Jan. Thank you all again!

They are great to work with. I just used some this past holiday season for a gift item. You can even find them in garden stores. Guest guest
Hi ! You sound like you came in the back door of this disease, like I did. I went to my doctor last March and she was looking at the surgery scars on my leg and asked me if I have ever had a blood transfusion. I said I did, and she said as long as she had my blood, could she check it for Hep C. I said ok, never thinking the worst, and was stunned by the news. Good luck on your biopsy, I was overwhelmed when mine said I had no damage, and I am 1B, notoriously a non-responder. Life is good, I am so happy that your children are coming home to you. You just got your 6th grandchild, I am waiting for my 5th. They are such a joy! Life is good, and I can't wait to hear more from you. I loved the message about the wolves. Marilyn Greetings Guess I should introduce myself- Hello; My name is and I've been diagnosed with HCV. I grew up in Michigan, but I must admit that I have not lived there for a long, long time. But- its still home. Holland is my home town. I now live in Des Moines, Iowa. I still miss hearing the ships come into Holland Harbor at night, so my office is decorated with a nautical theme, including a nautical chart of Macatawa Bay, a statue of the light house Big Red, as well as artwork of fishing boats and cruise ships, sea gulls, etc.. I'm a chemical dependency counselor; just finished a Master's in psychology. I work in an outpatient clinic and teach Abnormal and Developmental Psych at the community college, part time. My passion, however is Boxers; my wife and I are involved in Boxer Rescue- our home page is http://www.boxernest.net. We have three of our own, and they bring much joy into our lives! I probably contracted the Hep C Virus 14 years ago; after doing anything and everything for about 20 years, I ended up an IV cocaine user. The call about the test results came on my 14th clean-time anniversary. For those familiar with the 12 Steps, I have started a 12 Step based support group: HCVA/ I was lucky; I started this new job last November, and we have a guest from the AIDs coalition come and lecture about HIV and HCV. Listening to her got me thinking I might oughta begin to think about considering getting tested. When I learned I was positive, I called Sharon and she invited me to a state-wide conference for medical professionals, and I got to participate. A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing, so I've continued to do my research while I wait. The results of my genotype test should be in any day. I go in next Wednesday for a liver biopsy. There is a confusion of emotions... One thing I am grateful for is that my wife is negative. I have developed a good support system, and continue to broaden that base of support. I've made a point to get the best doctors. And I believe that God did not bring me this far to dump me now. I'd been feeling tired, wore out and achy for some time. I'd get little rashes, and headaches, and brain farts. I thought I was just getting old. When I told my doctor that, he said, " Sorry, but you ARE getting older. " So, I'm learning that not every twinge and ache is necessarily due to the Hep C virus. Still, it may be a long haul. Thanks. Its nice to meet you all. Its nice to know I'm not alone. Guest guest
I also have Neboshh, however as already stated we were sold before the Medic/Safety post was finalised. My opinion for what its worth is to follow the above,we will not be left in the sick bay as in the bad old days. Tried to add a link leading to UKOOA as to a suitable secondary role for medics, I used my resettlement to attend all the offshore courses required in 1992 after 20 odd years in the RAMC, first out on the options for change programme. Flitted about for 2 years as relief medic, then given a staff contract with BP, of course things change and we are now owned by Talisman Energy, so back to RGIT then AON. The reason I got this post is because of my RQMS course, they wanted a Facilities Manager/Medic at first, someone used to controlling accommodation, catering and so on. Just as well, before that I was a section commander with AFV432's, not much good on a platform. Regards W Clyde, Medic CLYMED@... Greetings Just a quick hello to all on the Forum. I have been registered for sometime under a home email and have been guilty of not inputing as much to the site as i should do! As work has finally decided to come into the 21st Centuary and allow internet access i am able to keep abreast of things whilst offshore and hope to be a regular on the site. I am currently working a Core Crew position on the FPSO " Uisge Gorm " in the Fife Field UK North Sea and have been since January this year. Ex Army CMT1 Doorgunner/Medic, self funded myself through the necessary training this time last year. Have been very lucky work wise with my first trip only 3 days after getting all my tickets. Haven't looked back since and was offered a core crew job with Aker Kvaerner starting on the 16th Jan this year. All is well so far, only concern is the length of time left in the current field, opinions vary from 12 Months to 2 years left, only the man at the top knows? Have recently completed my NEBOSH General Cert and would welcome some feedback from anyone who has done the same, also any opinions on where the role of Medic/Safety Officer will go and if it is a feasible option? Any updates on where we stand with the working time directive as i am currently working 3/3 all rumours flying around just now with only the P & J shedding any light on things.....It is not looking promising?
