I think you need to give it more time Trisha. It is hard to be in this

situation I know. I was down to 133 lbs and now am up to 144. Don't like

being here as my new clothes that used to fit don't and the in between ones

fit better. I do not want to go up after losing 30 lbs. I am fighting to

not let it get any worse. I am working out harder at the gym.

I don't have a solution for you just moral support.

I would try changing the dose. (try 50mg) I take 100mg Iodoral per day and don't think I have gained weight (OK I never weigh myself!) but I think I look good in the mirror, except I still have a bloated stomach. I am waiting for iodine to work on that :))

Anyway, I have in the last year dropped 70 pounds to a very healthy 112-115# on a 5'1" frame, 44-year-old female. I eat a med/high fat/high protein/low carb diet staying around my suggested calorie range, eat no processed foods, no prescriptions, no sugar/wheat/gluten/starch/bread, etc. I've been maintaining for several months now. Hi Ali,

I guess that's the way I understood it also. I've been on 50mgs Iodoral (and accompanying protocol) for over two years. I am feeling much better, but my weight has (basically) always been an issue. I lost 17lbs last winter, but most recently have put it all back on. I believe I have some hormone issues going on, but can't imagine that would cause such quick "overnight" weight gain ..?

When you google iodine and weight gain, all that comes up (basically) is that you will be correcting the thyroid imbalances when you add iodine, thus making weight loss possible. In one search it mentions that too much iodine can (also) make you hypO, but I know that's not what's going on with me. Why .. at my last appt. with Dr. B, I was told that I had to cut back a bit because my FT3 was a couple points over the top. (I was gaining EVEN when my FT3 level was over the top!) Anyway, I agree .. this is a very frustrating issue. Sure would be nice to have a "pat" answer for this one! ;-)

+++Hi Maddy. I suggest you get your thyroid tested again soon. Also

stop taking the liver tablets for now. It wouldn't be the Krill.

Hi Christie,

I recently wrote about this concern.  I have been gaining between 3 and 5

pounds a week (I'm up to 25 pounds in just a little over 2 months!)- AND I do at

least an hour of intense cardio 6 days a week (plus weight training and yoga)! 

If you do a search you will find lots of information.  Bee will remind us that

weight is the least of our worries and that the body creates fat to store toxins

away from our organs.  Hang in there- I know this is easier said than done. 

This week I didnt gain or lose any weight which was a relief- hopefully I am

stabilizing and preparing to lose what I've gained- but am trying really hard to

focus on how good I am feeling and not what I am looking like (or the fact that

I dont fit into any of my clothes!).

+++Hi Christie. Yes, it is normal for some people to put on weight for awhile

on this program, just like others lose a lot of weight.

This diet does not cause you to put on weight, but it takes time for the body to

detoxify, rebalance itself (hormones, etc.) and to switch over from running on

carbs/glucose to running on good fats. Good fats never put on weight, in fact

they help a person lose weight as Sally Fallon writes in her book Eat Fat, Lose

If you've had hormone problems in the past your body will " retrace " all of the

fluctuations with them too, since candida and other toxins cause all of the

body's cell membranes to go rigid/stiff. This not only makes all organs

malfunction, including the adrenals and thyroid, but it means hormones that are

being produced are not getting into stiff cells where they are needed to do

their job. Also nutrients and even water aren't as able to get into the cells -

Maybe you should try to double up on your drinks, so you aren't taking in too

much fluid. Some people add Pau D'Arco Tea and vitamin C ascorbic acid crytals

For us, there's the added risk of steroid-induced diabetes. It's important to

check on the possibility of diabetes at intervals.

Be sure you don't take anything at all by mouth without discussing it with

your doctor. This is really important. I don't know of anything you can take

that will speed up your metabolism.

thanks for the info. Im pretty healthy as I can.. just wasnt sure what long

term affects the prednisone can have on person even after being off it. my

glucose and insulin are fine, so no diabetes. will try to see what else can

take to speed up metabolism,

It's odd--most folks lose weight while hyperT, and gain with hypoT.? I have

heard of people gaining weight with hyperT, but it's unusual.? Please go to our

unexplained weight gain of 21 lbs. I started on 25mg per day thyroxine; TSH

levels too high so went on to 50mg; levels still too high (14.6)so now on 100mg

per day - doc said it would take at least 3 months to start losing weight from

when right dosage is found. My question is: is this true? As yet there is no

loss only gain despite a good diet and regular exercise. Can someone assure me

there is light at the end of the tunnel?

I'm thinking no two cases are alike. I, too, didn't lose weight. In any case,

if you're eating less than you're burning, it's not possible to gain.

Hi ,

Never heard of weight gain causing hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is

caused from a dysfunctional thyroid gland or other dysfunctional endocrine

systems. Hyperthyroidism produces weight loss usually as one's digestive

system is

in " overdrive " . Hypothyroidism however " under active thyroid " can cause

weight gain. you need to discuss with your doc what exactly is going on with

+++Hi madonna. You are very mistakened that eating high fats, and more calories

puts on body fat/weight!!! Actually high " good " fats help you lose weight, no

matter how many calories you consume because they are low in carbs. Carbs and

toxins cause weight gain, not good fats and proteins! See the book by Sally

I eat about 1,800 calories per day, mostly high good fats, and I'm very slim.

My aunt, who is 71 years old, went down 2 dress sizes after increasing her

intake of butter for 4 months.

+++Hi Christie. Gaining weight is not a matter of the amount of calories, it is

the " kind of calories " and carbs and toxins make people gain weight, not high

calories from proteins and good fats. In fact good fats help you lose weight -

see the book called Eat Fats, Lose Fats by Sally Fallon and Enig at the

can you explain what you mean keeping it to 80% fats to 205 protein?

can you describe a typical day's diet? i agree with the others, the

calories consuming 7 T of coconut oil plus other oil plus food is alot

of calories.

+++Hi . She wrote 20% protein, not 205.

On my diet you consume 3 food groups according to your ratios, which isn't quite

You don't gain weight from high calories when you consume moderate protein, high

good fats and low carbs. Carbs and toxins make a person gain weight, but good

Hi

I just posted to Madonna and Sara as well about the weight gain. I have it,

too!

Bee tells us that the body produces fat in order to store toxins away from vital

inner organs. This is actually a good thing. Our weight will eventually

stabilize as our bodies heal themselves. Weight gain can also be retracing. I

think this must be the case for me since I was pretty chunky in my early 20s.

While I know all this intellectually, my vanity doesn't like it so much,

especially since my husband keeps losing weight. I lost weight in the

beginning, too, but now I'm gaining and I don't like it. I'm not very tall

either (5'4 " ) so the extra 15 pounds I've gained since January is not pretty!

We just have to hang in there!

Madonna,

You shouldn't give up hope just yet. I think you, like me, are probably

'retracing'. I was pretty chubby for quite a few years, so I think it only

stands to reason that I would gain some of it back while healing.

I think that low body weight doesn't necessarily equate health. It really

depends on what the person is eating. For example, someone who is anorexic

and/or bulimic, although thin, are not in the best health. Thin people who take

medications are not healthy either.

I know you don't want to go back to the weight you were before, but like

'retracing' acne, rashes and sinus infections (or any other problem we may have

had), it is a necessary evil in order to heal ourselves.

That's why I have been a non believer so to speak that this thing of " eat fats

lose weight "  makes no sense and now there's proof with all of us gaining weight.
