It doesn't take very much, I use a small teaspoonful of the bitters in water though others get by with less. The best time is 20 minutes before each meal to help get the stomach primed for digestion but anytime is better than no time. With the cayenne start small and gradually work your way upwards to a larger dose. Dr. recommends starting with 1/4 teaspoon and every 3 days increase by 1/4 teaspoon until you reach a full dose of one teaspoon. That's a lot more than I take and I've read other some other writings that say you only need a pinch. Try it out and see what works for you. Good luck!
