Guest guest
Back in 1994 I was treated for a yeast issue by Dr. Teitelbaum and his associate, Dr. Weiss, and have done well since then. I have been on and off long-term A/B for sinus issues since 2004 and in October, following carpal tunnel surgery, started getting small hives. In December they escalated into angioedema in/on my mouth, neck and face and huge hives. I am seeing a nutritionist and we started a detox. I was part of the uticaria group - which is moderated and run by people who read all the posts and reject some - especially the ones referencing yeast. I decided that was NOT the group for me. Sadly, there are people there who could benefit from an open discussion and probably believe they are having one... I have been taking nystatin for a month. This past Monday I saw the nutritionist and really cleaned up my diet - prior to seeing her once the hives got bad I stopped eating anything but rice cakes and salad; I would add a piece of bread or baked potato, though I knew they were not good starches - hungry! Now I am eating only things on her list, continuing the nystatin, taking milk thistle and a 50billion probiotic. The hives this week have been horrid. I know it is die-off, and at this point possibly from food allergies I have developed because my immune system tends not to decline but get hyper and hate a lot of things. For example, last time in 1994 we had to change every med I was on because they all made me sick with the same symptoms as the yeast had caused - those were all nervous system related. Not sure which is worse this week - feeling like you are losing your mind or wondering if your throat will swell shut. I have since 1994 had issues with epi so that pen scares me more than the angioedema. This morning I discontinued the nystatin because I think we are moving too quickly and have made the little yeasty's very unhappy. I may try taking two nystatin a day (down from eight) depending on the swelling in and around my mouth and throat, and then gradually increase. I think after the years of A/B the diet and 50billion may initially be enough to try. The nutritionist initially recommended a candida supplement but we have backed off. She also recommended a tea that I am uncomfortable with because of its blood thinning properties. Though you may have to have huge amounts I try not to mix too much with the coumadin I am on because my INR is never consistent. Last time I went it should have been low because of eating a lot of lettuce and salad - instead it was way up. Bloodwork showed nothing except my usual nearly-nothing IgA. I also take Fiorinal, Nexium, and Florinef. The derm recommended H2 and H1 blockers and I have tried stopping those. The claritin was drying out my nose too much and making sinus issues that we don't need right now. I hope to get through the die-off soon - it has been really bad this time around and scary.
