Guest guest
Don, If it were sitting in the sun like that , wouldn't it ferment? and would that be ok? Just curious. Also, i have never seen these pods (i'm in NM) and wondering what they look like. Sylvia Don Quai <mysticalherbalist@...> wrote:And for anyone living in the Arid-zone or New Mexico areas one can collect the pods (which is what they make the meal out of) and make ones own brand of (yes it is cooked) molasses. Mighty tasty stuff but does take getting used to. I suppose if one were to take the meal and macerate it in distilled water for several days in very direct hot sunlight then strain, filter and allow to slowly evaporate till there is only a very thick syrup then one would have a living molasses.Dand now why didn't I think of that when I had mesquite trees all around.-- Peace be with you,Don "Quai" Eitner"Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man."Nearly all men die of their remedies, and not of their illnesses. ~Baptiste Molière, Le Malade ImaginaireThe obstacle is the path. ~Zen ProverbHave a Blessed Day,Sylvia Ellisonhttp://www.geocities.com/h10feet/http://myweb.cableone.net/ellisonfamily/

However, there really is no other way to make a sun infusion. It will only ferment if yeast is allowed inside and allowed to grow. Now yeast is a fungi of sorts and does not particularly like being in the sun. So no I don't think it will ferment unless it is taken out of the sun and left in the dark coolness. Hmmmmm....mesquite brew 102. New Mexico has screw beans, these are cork screw shaped mesquite pods. If I recall a'right, they grow down in the southern stretch of NM. But they grow there. There may also be regular type mesquite growing on the west side of NM next to Arid-zona. Check 's books or site or do a web search. You should be able to find where they grow. An infusion of the leaves makes an awesome eye wash for conjunctivitis too. -- Peace be with you, Syl. and congrats on becoming a mod. Glad to see you back girl. Been awhile.
