I had two jars tincturing in my herb closet that I had not labeled. One was hawthorne berry and one was cayenne. My father called and said he needed more hawthorne so I grabbed one of the jars and started pressing it...by hand. Well..turns out I grabbed the wrong one and was pressing cayenne tincture by hand. I have washed my hands a bazillion times...rubbed raw honey on the...aloe vera gel...and they still burn. I did manage to take my contacts out last night...with an excruciating amount of discomfort of course, but know there is no way I will be able to get the back in today without even more pain. What I am looking for is to find something that might neutralize the cayenne? Is there such a thing? Thanks! Caroline
Guest guest
An "old family remedy" for burning mouth from hot peppers is salt. A small bit of salt is said to take away the burn, though I have never felt a need to try it. I have no idea if it would work in this situation, but try rinsing your hands in salt water. Ya never know..... Peace, love, laughter "You can't stay mad at somebody who makes you laugh."Caroline <ladyguinevere@...> wrote: Hi guys, I totally messed up last night. Guest guest
I'd forgotten about that. I've heard the same thing. I guess it's a relatively good use for milk, soaking one's hands. Guest guest
Okay, so far I have soaked my hands in salt water and milk. I have washed my hands about a bazillion times. Last night I tried honey and aloe vera gel. I am still going to try the olive oil and as a last resort I purchased a pumice stone to try and scrape off some of the skin on the outside of my hands. I am so frustrated it is ridiculous. My hands are still burning...but the worst part of it is...I cannot get my contacts back in my eyes. I cannot function with my glasses...they give me a tremendous headache and I have not renewed the prescription for them in several years as I only wear them from the time I take my contacts out to when I go to bed...and in the morning until I get my contacts back into my eyes. I know that my eyes will burn because I just put my finger in my mouth and I can still feel the burn of the cayenne. I am not bothered by it myself...as I love the hot stuff anyway...but not in my eyes...which is really my bigest frustration. I just need to get this stuff OFF of my hands...don't realy care about the burning either...that would not bother me so much if it wasn't burning my eyes whenever I touch them! ARGH!!! Any other thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated! Caroline Peanut butter takes the burn out of the mouth... try it on your hands... and let us know.. lol
Guest guest
I just tried the oil....kept my hands in it for 20 minutes. It seems to have improved but still feel the heat when I try to put my fingers near my eyes. I will now try peanut butter and then I pumice my hands raw. Ugh...this is just annoying...lesson learned I guess!! LOL Caroline I'm tellin ya Caroline - do the last resort... oil. It worked for me. Guest guest
Hubby wonders if vinegar would help? I thought maybe baking soda in a bit of water? Good luck! P.S. Can you put your contacts in if you wear some of those thin disposable latex gloves?

LOL However, you might consider carrying some latex gloves around with you for in-sertion and de-sertion of your contacts, at least until the cayenne wears off. I personally know of no way that will remove the cayenne that is 100% effective. I am not sure how this will work as I don't wear contacts. Yep, lesson learned. -- Peace be with you, Caroline.
