Guest guest
I had it off and on for several years without realizing what it was. I made several changes to my diet/lifestyle, but lots of water seemed to help it a lot. By lots, I mean up to 2 gallons a day in summer. The less coffee and sodas you drink, the better it will be...probably. When you feel it, try drinking a 12 or 16 ounce glass of water. Guest guest
While you are studying natural health lifestyle choices especially dietary changes to affect long term results in healing up the acid reflux, use a demulcent with an astringent for some immediate healing effect. WHAT'S WORKED FOR US: Take either marshmallow root or slippery elm (there are others that would work too) and simmer it for a while. When you can it's better to use something other than slippery elm for sustainable harvesting reasons and I love marshmallow root for that. Use a well rounded teaspoon/cup of water or so for 10-30 minutes. If you do a longer simmer you'll have to start with more water. Once that is done you have a great solution that is soothing to irritated internal mucous membranes. Now, to make it even more effective, once you take it off the heat pour the water over a teaspoon or so of an astringent herb, raspberry leaves would be awesome. Put a lid on it and wait 20-30 minutes before drinking. If you want to save some time do up a pint and a half in the morning and use that for your 3 one cup doses through the day. WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THIS: In herbal talk you are preparing a decoction of marshmallow root and then infusing raspberry leaves in it. The astringent stuff will help shrinken and tighten up the loose tissue that's allowing the acid to come up. Either one alone works okay (with slippery elm getting an edge) but the two together works much better. Take it as needed or 3x a day if it's a continual p.i.t.a. type of thing. CHEAP REDNECK VERSION FROM YOUR LAWN: A strong plantain leaf infusion ought to be helpful. Plantain is both astringent and somewhat emollient and ought to work well alone. It might be better than raspberry leaves in the above mix. I would prefer the mix but use what you have. IF YOU TRY NOTHING ELSE: Get some swedish bitters and take a teaspoon in water 20 minutes before each meal. That's almost a cure all for those of us not quite ready to go onto an all healthy natural diet. Maybe someone can do a write up on the wonders of swedish bitters. Tastes nasty but IT WORKS WONDERS. Guest guest
From: " Anne " <pokergirl212000@...> My mother and I both suffer acid reflux. ++++++++++++++++++ I would say a complete redo of your diet. Eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies that have their enzymes intact. Use extra plant-based enzymes and probiotics for help with digestion and assimilation. Tons of pure water. Lots of exercise. Eliminate caffeine, soda, and alcohol, eliminate all sugars, and all boxed and processed foods. Eliminate “non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs” or NSAIDs. This includes a large number of prescription medications and OTC non-prescription drugs as well. These include Advil, Motrin, ibuprofin, aspirin, and Aleve (which is the old prescription Naprosyn). NSAIDs are a direct and major cause of the leaky gut syndrome, because they inflame the intestinal lining and cause a widening of the spaces between cells. Whatever you do, don’t use OTC acid-killers. The acid is there for a reason – to digest your food, and to kill bacteria that may cause pneumonia. In the meantime, until your body heals itself, here’s a good all-natural product to use occasionally – it actually puts a gel-type barrier on the top of the contents of your stomach and prevents everything from coming back up into the esophagus - http://tinyurl.com/h2al Carol ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Would you benefit from a more effective and healthy immune system?
