Tone, I want to place a disclaimer, that I cannot treat any condition, but I can make suggestions of things to which you can educate yourself. I was going to write back about the natural things that you can do, and some others did as well. I wanted to point out the importance of being evaluated. I still would carry a bottle of NTG, because we know that it works, and if none of the things below I am going to suggest do, the NTG will still help in an emergency. Suzi's suggestion about the cayenne is good. Powder or capsules is OK, but not as good as tincture. The tincture can be placed under the tongue. Cayenne (also known as Capsicum) opens the arteries, decreases BP, decreases clots, and decreases cholesterol. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few others that may help: Lemon Balm is a circulatory stimulant, and decreases BP and palpitations. Ginko Biloba increases blood flow, which is one of the problems in angina. Ginger decreases clots. Rosemary is a circulatory stimulant. Garlic decreases BP, clots, and cholesterol. Hawthorn normalizes heart rhythms, dilates the arteries, and works to oppose the decrease in O2 to the heart. CoQ10 is very important for the heart, as well as homocysteine levels. Smoking draws the oxygen from the blood, and can make the angina worse. Diet is one of the most important things you can do - whole foods. The body does not recognize junk food or additives, and cannot use it as fuel. The body recognizes whole foods and uses them as fuel to feed and nourish the cells in the body, including the cells in the cardiac muscles. I hope this all helps. I threw that out a long time ago as I could not stand the pain it delivered to the head. Others that I know that have taken it have felt the same way.I use lots of cayenne powder. I am alittle obsessive with that but I will see about a tincture. I have never seen actual cayenne peppers so I do not know what pepper I could use to tincture.I will look into the other things as well. CoQ10 is something I have read alot on and is definitely something I want.I had gotten my father Dr.'s Hawthorne Berry syrup not too long ago and though he did take it, it did nothing but we are all different and with different problems. I have not been back to the doctor in a while. The last time I was there for a heart problem, I disconnected the monitors and all and snuck out. I got in trouble. I am bad like that. I worry too much about things here to be anywhere else.I am usually the easiest person to get along with. Just don't lock me up or tie me down...well tie me down with monitors and wires anyway ;)I'm taking the super tonic daily so that should be good for my garlic right? I am on my last bottle of that. Darn that went quick!I also use ginger sometimes.As for the smoking it seems that it will have to end as I am not finding work and I cannot afford them. the guyfriend used to buy them for me and he is no longer around. I guess if I look at things there are positive points. Hard to break this terrible 34 year nasty habit.As for diet, I am doing the best that I can afford.Once I can find steady work it will be more feasible for me to get what I want and need.As I had said in my original posting, I am not whining or complaining. Just was looking for something to help as it has become hard for me to do things without pain and breathlessness and I am such an independent person.Felt too ill to walk today but my shins are killing me anyway!I am jotting everything down that you suggest and will heed your advice.I do so appreciate it. I totally can relate to what you are saying. I think you should just keep some for emergencies. In an acute attack, if nothing else works, it is better than having an MI. Now that I see you are mentioning breathlessness, I want to ask you, have you been diagnosed with CHF? If that is the case, then I will add a few suggestions: If that is the case, definitely look into CoQ10. DL-Carnitine helps with burning of fatty acids, and will help with function. Beta Carotene, which can be found in many whole foods, is a hugely powerful anti-oxidant that will help with cardiac function. Magnesium. Many times cardiac patients are found to be deficient, and it can improve cardiac hemodynamics and decrease the risk of dysrhythmias. EFAs - improve heart function, inhibit platelet clumping L-Arginine - dilates blood vessels, and mimics the actions of NTG Thiamine - reduces cardiac arrythmias, palpitation, CHF, and elevated venous pressure Vit E - thins the blood and strengthens blood vessels Selenium - protective in cardiomyopathy, can be found in high concentrations in Brazil Nuts - again, whole foods is the best way to take your nutrients if possible. Try to reduce your intake of sodium, and use sea salt if possible, in fact, use chelated sea salt if possible - (sand free) Try to reduce your fluid intake if you are retaining fluid. The excess fluid makes it more difficult for the heart to pump.
