Work up to doing a combination of 25 on each side, then 20, then 15, then 10 then 5,4,3,2,1. Do this twice a day and you will see a fantastic difference. It strengthens the stomach muscles but does not put a strain on your back. As you lower the leg, blow out, raise the leg, suck in. You’ve got a classic Pilates exercise now. Another good exercise for both back and abs is the “Pilates 100”. Lie on your back, raise both legs to a 45 degree angle. Lay flat on your back with knees at an angle and once the legs are at an angle rise your arms up but keep them at hip height, extended straight out, fingertips stretching. Now raise your head. Hold this position as you rise and lower your arms to the count of 100. Up and down is one count. Keep the arms no higher than hip height, keep the legs at an angle and the head raised, keep hips on the floor and don’t raise them or move them around. Keep the stomach sucked into the spine and breathe in and out as you pump your arms. Creates great flexibility! Guest guest Posted October 27, 2005 Report Share Posted October 27, 2005 Thanks Gayla I can't actually lie on my back yet because it still hurts my healing cracked tailbone and I am not generally comfortable lying on my back because my back is really bad. Once my tailbone heals I am going to work my way back to weights (which I have done before) to strengthen my back. I will have to work very slowly at lying on my back on the floor because when I do my ribs hurt and I can't breath really good.
