Guest guest
Hi; I like to make my own perfume and cologne, but I have never been able to make a bottle that does not have the oil and the alcohol separate and also the mixture always looks cloudy. I put the specified amount of oils into a small bottle then I fill up the bottle with 100 proof vodka. when the vodka hits the oils it clouds up and then after a few minutes it separates with the oils floating on top. Any suggestions on how to get the oil and alcohol to blend together and to make the mixture clear. Thanks: Raven
Guest guest
Hey Raven, Have you ever tried one of the polysorbates in the mix to see if it will give you a clear end product? I haven't worked with them except in some bath oils and lotions but not for a cloudiness issue in perfume. I think I have read that probably a polysorbate 20 will help with the cloudiness. . . . hmmm. . wonder if I can find where I read that???? Tonya K. How would I go about learning correctly? There are many excellent Perfume Makers in this group ..Personally, I believe that the best way to learn is to take a real class with one of these experts. Find one near you, enroll and learn. On July 1 there are group ads, look for the next perfume class. Guest guest
There, you see? Now you can make a nice perfume for yourself. ) You could also make a nice air freshener spray too. Just mix 5ml of juniper essential oil with about 20 oz. of distilled water and about 45 ml of vodka. Let set for about 8 to 10 hours and just spray the room. It might look a bit cloudy but it won't stain the furniture or drapes. I make this with lavender essential oil and spray my bed sheets with it. Oooooh it's soooo nice. I LOVE that smell and just saw juniper berry essential oil for the first time a few days ago. -----Original Message-----From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of pearlmoonSent: Thursday, December 08, 2005 10:21 AMhealth Subject: Perfume making (Jeff) Hi Jeff Thank you for the information on the castor oil. There are different ways of making perfume. I usually take 2 cups of distilled water, 3 tablespoons vodka, and a combination of essential oils that I think would be nice. Combine the ingredients in a dark glass bottle, shake well, and let set for 12 hours before use. Some combinations for the essential oils are, 5 drops sandalwood 10 drops bergamot 10 drops cassis .................................. 5 drops lavender 10 drops chamomile 10 drops valerian .................................... 5 drops everlasting 10 drops peony 10 drops sandalwood ...................................... Another perfume I make is a combination of: 4 drops sandalwood 4 drops musk 3 drops frankincense and 2 teaspoons jojoba oil Combine and mix well and let set for a few days before using. I got all these recipes from www.pioneerthinking.com Nice site for a lot of things. Check it out. Unfortunately, they only sell wholesale. But if you have a business license, they're great, and super reasonable. That's where I get my cold pressed rosa mosquita rose hip seed oil also. Spectrum Chemical in Los Angeles area has the sulfated castor oil I'm sure.. 2 other names for this oil are sulphonated castor oil and turkey red oil. Or go to the local chemical store and order it. Probably cheaper that way. How do you make your perfume. I'm making a couple of different kinds this year for gifts also. Two different bases.
