You can't imagine how hard I am laughing at this read Kate because that is

exactly what happened. I haven't been to chat in about a month and when I went

I could only see the bottom of the screen where I type in. Nothing else, as in

who may have been there or anything. I bopped in and out a FEW, lol, times but

it's all hysterical to me at the moment. Hope I can figure it out to join you

all later as I miss everyone dearly. Till soon I hope, Pattymelt

This is too funny! I went there today at about 12:10 and the ONLY name I saw

was Pattymelt. I sent her a couple of messages and no reply. I had to go to my

daughters 6th grade graduation so I didn't stick around long, Guess Melt hung

around at least long enough for me to think she was there. =) Caroline

I've been meaning to post about the chat room for a couple of weeks now. Prior

to April 2002 (when moved from Clubs to Groups), we had a scheduled chat

time for every Sunday evening. When the move happened, the entire group

was shut down for several weeks and the scheduled chat fell by the wayside.

Lynda and I were just talking about this when we were in Atlanta a few weeks

ago. We should definitely schedule a set time again! It really is a fun way to

get to know people better and to get the new week off to a great start.

Of course people can use it anytime, but what if we scheduled a set time for

Sunday evenings again? Like maybe 7pm EST??

experiences we all encounter and how it was handled .

Hi mistieyed-

We don't really have organized chats at this time--the times zones

and work schedules seem to always get in the way. Is there a specific

topic you wanted to discuss or more of a " getting to know other

members " session? I'd be up for a social chat--but prefer to the

educational discussions as posts---talking off the cuff can sometimes

be inaccurate and we want to make sure the members of this site get

the correct information.

Hi mistieyed and ALL,

As owner and founder of this site, I have always been in favor of

only the best most accurate information on line here to be sure that

our 'students' can feel comfortable with the answers. This is another

reason that I decided to have TEXPERTS. AS you can see from recent

posts even the TEXPERTS do not always know the answer and we have to

do some digging. Which in the case of the CSACT law we are all still

doing!

Any way for this reason I discussed a long time ago with my

moderator,Dora, that there were to be no chat discussions without a

moderator or owner in the chat or a TEXPERT. She wholeheartedly

agreed.

I encourage chat with a pre-approved TEXPERT and topics that that

TEXPERT can 'safely ' cover and with it being known that the TEXPERT

has the right to pull the plug on the chat if the discussion becomes

too much of opinion and not fact. Dora and I have worked very very

hard to keep the dependability and integrity of this site

honorable. So we would not feel too comfortable allowing a chat

while one of us is not present. 'Getting to know you chats' are not a

problem per se. But these will and have turned into informal study

chats. 'you know I do not understand...' or " I am having a problem

with " . People are so very willing to help each other on this site.

But unfortunately if several who are 'studying' are on the chat with

no TEXPERT or Moderator or Owner kaos could ensue with possible wrong

answers. The safety of the puclic would be at stake and the issue,

not just not pasing the exam!

So unless there is a TEXPERT who I can trust to follow my direction

to answer only that area of study questions that in his or her areas

of expertise, and to facilitate the chat on any other non-study, non-

pharmacy non-sexual topic, I can not sponsor such a caht on my board.

On the other hand this is an open invitation to anyone who is a

TEXPERT to email me privately to let me know if they are interested

in this challenge.

My moderator is exempt from this. She has my fullest endorsement to

facilitate a chat at any time. Why? because she and I think alike and

I know this! We both understand what is at stake here, and we know

our direction and purpose.

So what I am saying is this: I realize the need for this acitivity. I

will not have time nor inclination to personally facilitate such a

chat on a regular basis. But I am willing to explore this idea with

my TEXPERTS to see if one of them would be willing to do this either

as a trial, regular chat time or random time (prn) BUT ONLY UNDER MY

STRICT GUIDELINES.

So you have 'opened' a crack, on this hard head that no one else has

been able to do. It may not sound like it, but you have gotten

farther than anyone else. I will also say this, if I were to find

that my guidelines were not adhered to... the chats would stop. My

guidelines would be as I have discussed above. They pertain to the

academic PTCB study questions being in the areas of the TEXPERTS

expertise and discussion of sexual content would be not acceptable.

Other than that you could discuss the weather, your trip, your work,

associations etc what ever you wanted, except no guessing on academic

questions or study stuff, no discussion of study questions that are

out of the expertise of the TEXPERT , TEXPERT would pull the plug on

the chat if this happened. For quality assurance I or Dora or

a 'guest' may pop in from time to time.

So you need to get to know others. I can see this. To ask a study

question on line for immmediate feed back , I understand this. For

discussion that may lead to more confusion because no one knows the

correct answer or everyone thinks they know or has differing

opinions, is not acceptable and does nothing but confuse our students.

I think I have outlined what I am willing to do. If you are still

interested or anyone else is, please email me privately. I will

consider all that you have to say.

This is a big step for me ( and I am not too sure Dora would agree to

have this ).

I will ONLY consider private email on this topic. You may cc Dora if

you like. Please do not post further discussion on this topic on

this site. Feel free to email each other privately on this or any

issue.

Hi Sunni,

I'm not sure how often people in our group might go to the chat room,

but we could always schedule one night if there enough people that

would like to chat. For me I can never seem to get into any

chat rooms although I do have java but it still doesn't work :-(

(Anyone have any suggestions for that?)

Hey Juls -

I didn't notice any responses to this - I've been to the chat room before - it

can be cool because there's voice as well. But it's hard to set up a scheduled

time/day. People have tried before and it just hasn't worked. I guess with all

the different time zones, family dynamics, whatever, coordinating that is just

hard to do.

Anyone can use the chatroom here at the site if they can

remember their password which has been the problem. Because of

that, we chose to use the Hearing Exchange Chat Room and a

graciously gave us Wednesday nights from 9 to 10 Eastern time

specifically for a CI Chat.

Anyone who wishes to send out a message to the group for chatting at

any time - either at the Hearing Exchange or here is welcome to do

that. We even had Sunday night chats at the Mass General Site for a

while which were pretty popular.

Chatting is up to the group so if you want to set up a time and

place other than the regular Wednesday night chat to see how many

attend - please feel free to do it.
