Guest guest
Well I could not get an appt with GP any time soon. They offered visit with his PA. Sure , but I didn't know he had a PA. Just needed prescription updates and my chart updated. Hadn't been to see GP since before tx. Well, PA was incredabley young. Quess this is her first gig. No problem.Early on I told her about tx. She said " I didn't know Hep C could be treated. " ( sigh, this is gonna be hard) Then she says " oh how lucky it didn't become chronic. You could have had it for years then. " ( another audible sigh). Then she was up dating chart and she said she had the records from nuero. So I told her I had been referred to Oncologist. Suddenly she sat up taller and said, far too eagerly, " Oh, okay So you have cancer! " I thought Becky and I were gonna choke! We told her " no, not that we know of. Oncologist was running test. " She said " how can you not know?? " I opened my mouth to say How can you be so inept? Becky shot me a look. But I was only there to have meds updated. So she refilled the ones needed, I requested an increase of my anti- dep. She agreed the Gabipentin is blocking the pain of shingles. She looked at shingles and said " maybe ring worm " God , I hope she didn't put Ring Worm in my chart! These are classic shingles. And iff it was ring worm I would have in different areas. ( Ok, back to meds....) she then spent the next 10 mins explaining SAD and telling me to get a sun lamp to stop depression. ( what part of tx depression, and anxiety did she not get?).Then she says just go lay out in sun....( I looked at Becky cause I knew she was about to explode.Becky settled for eye rolling.) At this point we were done; I had my scripts. And I will worry about correcting med records later. But this was a good example of being on top of your meds and medical issues . Some one like her could do a lot of damage if a pt wasn't vocal about the pros and cons of what is being prescibed. http://facebook.com/people/andTrudy-Kinsey/1340460877 " " A well- behaved woman never made history " ...Mae West http://oktravels.wordpress.com http://allrecipes.com/cook/TrudyK/profile.aspx
Guest guest
TrudyI still think that your GP should know about this kind of stupidity. Maybe you are on top of your meds etc.; but, the next patient that she says "cancer" to, could die of a heart attack on the spot!!Gloria Well I could not get an appt with GP any time soon. Guest guest
, is right that everything is going to be converted to Medicaid Waivers, including the DRS services for job coaching...but for right now, If you're using DRS job coaching services only (non-waiver at the moment) AND have the DD Home Based Waiver, you're ok. I'm hoping what you mean, though, is that you're accessing the DRS Waiver for Home Services? Yay if you are!! It's likely that's what Will County/Service Inc was talking about with the 'if you finally receive the DD Waiver thru PUNS...then you'd need to decide which one to go forward with. Guest guest
This is so far outside of my comfort zone. It would be great to have someone from a Center for Independent Living answer this authoritatively. But, this is my general fuzzy knowledge, students in school districts start using this funding as part of their transition plans. School districts and special ed coops usually have personnel funded by DORS that help with this. I remember having someone like that at 's IEP's. My understanding is that often that funding follows students out of the school setting. But, it is typically time limited. 18 months? Ellen, I think we should identify someone from DORS and ask them to be an " expert for a week " on this topic. Charlotte From: IPADDUnite [mailto:IPADDUnite ] On Behalf Of kmaher229@... Charlotte, That would be a good idea. Cause I've got a bunch of questions, too. I was so hoping to get to work with a musical therapy student or therapist, but haven't had any responses from my ad to the college that has a music therapy program. I was hoping to get him a job coach, but not really sure how to access one. (Fought for years while he was in school to get him one, but it didn't happen.)Was working with two different states at the time. (he was going to school in MO as a day student, but our school district was in IL. The only things he has now is Home Services through DORS, Medicaid & SSDI. I did just send a note to a friend who sings in hopes that she'll work with him twice a month. Liz
Guest guest
Sorry, I just got in at the tail end here. Don Davia Benefits Specialist from the DuPage Center for Independent Living is coming to our Parents Group today. Is there something I could ask him for you? Or would he be able to answer the questions? Guest guest
Ellen, I think it would be cool to ask someone on a statewide level. I'll ask Ann Ford to suggest someone. Guest guest
HI Ellen, I serve on the IL Council on DD with a number of people from state agencies. Randy Staton is with DRS: Randy.staton@... and 217.782.2004. If he's not the right person to answer these questions, he can probably recommend someone. Hope you're getting settled in. I'll copy Randy on this to let him know that you'll be contacting him for expertise for the 800 person on-line IPADD community. Guest guest
Hi, been out of town and just catching up. My daughter was in the STEP program thru high school and got work experience, but was not paid so it did not count toward Medicare (don't know if we got screwed here). We then got Home Based when she was about 21 and she did get DORS Vocational services (job coach) for as long as was needed. She has since lost the job and is now getting Vocational Services for 6 months. I'm told that can be renewed if she isn't working by then. DORS also did support her in the Eval Program down at SIU for 6 months. That's been my experience. Gloria
