I don't know if this is a no-no, but here it goes:does anybody know if medical pot is good for a pain killer, I hear it damages the liver, and we all know I can't afford any more damage to the liver.

To Betty, Don, Gloria, Teri,Teri I have seen the article myself, and yeah it does some to warn about daily use and increasing fibrous.Betty, pot will help with nausea, I have no idea about its effect on treatment though.Gloria, I have to agree here, just looking to find something to not feel the pain.I did not know you had to be clean for a year before a transplant, that most likely means smoking cigs too? They had tests back in the 80s to test for pot in your system, I had to go through, who knows what they have now!Don, that is a good point, Yeah smoking a lot of pot daily causes problems I remember this from my younger days.thanks so much it is just a thought I have, but if I find some info I will post it :)thanks so much everybody, sorry to put all the posts in one mail, I am very tired.Hugs,nyOn Jan 4, 2011, at 2:11 PM, Theresa Gottlieb wrote:

ny,I know on Facebook you are friends with Sherry...  she is/was taking Marinol which is the synthetic version of pot in pill form.  They gave it to her to help with the nausea, eating problems and pain during treatment.  It worked wonders for her..   it also made her silly as all get out and she gave us quite a few laughs!  But that's another option...  if you could get a script for that.  I know my doc suggested I try smoking if I had access to it during treatment..  I had access but I'm not sure if I ever did it.  I don't remember.  Probably not because I was really freaked during treatment about doing anything that might compromise my liver.  I was beyond paranoid.  But I know it works for pain.  It dulls those receptors in the brain and if you have pain  you really don't care.  It's a thought..  one that you may get some pretty strong arguments for and against on a forum like this but to each his own.

Yes, if you are ever in need of a transplant it will affect your placement.  That sucks but it's the reality.  Now, the question is, how bad of shape is your liver in?  Is that even a concern right now.  I'm not sure about the time line, if it's a year or what the situation is but also if  you are prescribed medical marijuana, I know it is legal in Hawaii, would that come into play?  They can't penalize you for something a doctor ordered.  That is something that will clear up once more states are on board with medical use.

Might want to check into Marinol.

nyI certainly don't want to give the impression that it's true with every transplant Dr.You know, I am still a smoker as well (bad, bad) and all through my clinical, there was not a single time that any of the Drs etc. ever said anything derogatory to me about it. I just learned in the roughest way possible, why I shouldn't be a smoker when I went in for the liver surgery. The most difficult thing of all during and after that surgery, was the coughing as my lungs were trying to clear the shit out. I promised myself that I would not return to smoking when I made it through that; but, unfortunately - I grabbed a cigarette two weeks later because of the stress that was going on at the

time.Gloria

Gloria, you have me laughing over here.. we are so much alike!  My doctor made me quit smoking for one month prior to my hysterectomy.  He just wasn't going to put me under unless I wasn't smoking.  SO I quit.  Did the thing with the patches.  Had the surgery, went in on a Thursday, my son picked me up on a Friday to go home..  he asked me if I wanted anything when I was released.  I had an order for him..  a coke, a smoke and a beef sandwich!  They took me in a wheelchair to his waiting car once the doctor finally released me, my son had been at the hospital with me since 5 that morning and they released me around 1 in the afternoon..  don't know why he was there that early but mama was in the hospital.. I'm sure that was it.  But he brought the car around and handed me a coke and as soon as he pulled away from the curb he told me there were smokes in the glove compartment!  And I was off!  Smoking again!

I am so bad.

Hi Teri,Yes I am friends wit Sherry. I might have to look into Marinol.Yeah I know that potion help without he pains, and eating. That sucks about the transplant thing with pot, that is just not right. My liver is stage 4, Compensated cirrhosis. I think this is the first stage of cirrhosis, and hopefully it just stays here, I don't see why the cirrhosis would increase, I think that there are a free stages of cirrhosis before liver failure?Yeah it is legal here, and how could you be denied something that a doctor prescripted to you!thanks so much,Hugs,nyOn Jan 5, 2011, at 8:54 AM, Theresa Gottlieb wrote:
