Guest guest
Oh my... Stereotypes and stigma's..Most GP's are not well versed in Hep C and it's treatment. That's where the gastro's and the hepatologists come in. My own GP backed off when hep C surfaced. He honestly told me he didn't know enough and referred me. Pain management... seems to be the flavor of the year. Physical therapy... it works for some and yes the goal would be to get you off pain killers.Your best bet is to leave the information about your coke use OUT of any conversation with any doctor at all. This is most always used against you no matter how long it has been. You become labeled as a drug seeker. Then getting those pain meds that you so desperately need is near impossible. And yes, some people do sell their pain meds. You can very rarely get Hep C from sex but it's rare. Yes, you can get it from snorting coke and sharing staws and dollar bills. As to how you got it? Who knows... and NO it is not necessarily preventable. How can something be preventable that we weren't even aware existed before the mid 80's. Now it is preventable.. completely preventable. Guest guest
ny,A Hepatologist just has more training on the liver. They specialize in liver disease whereas a Gastroenterologist specializes in the whole gastro-intestinal tract. Yep, pain management.. It's the new big thing. I'll exit stage left from that one. Not interested. I've done the whole physical therapy, accupuncture thing.. didn't work for me. There was a time when dentists did not sterilize their instruments.. this would have been back when we were kids into our 20's. There could have been leftover blood and leftover HCV contaminants all over their tools. Scary huh? Now a lot of it is preventable, but back when most of us were infected, not so much. Like I said, if you don't know something even exists how do you prevent yourself from getting it? As far as telling doctors you've never had Hep C? That's just not a possibility. Even if you were to start treatment again tomorrow and clear the virus, the antibody will still be in your system as a marker that will forever say you've been exposed to the virus. Guest guest
nySometimes you come up with the weirdest things!!Ok, a GP is a family Dr. and does not need to know any more about HepC than to refer you to a Gastro or Hep Dr.Pain management is a plan to get anyone off the need for drugs to cope. However, that doesn't mean that they will cut you off cold turkey!! Those pain meds are not very liver friendly anyway. As far as the coke and dealer crap - who cares what they think???? You know and the people who know you best, know the truth. I talk about my used to be HepC in public all the time. I don't care who hears me or what they choose the infer about me.It is very possible to get HepC from snorting coke. However, it's also - who cares?? Now, the sex part, what is it - a minuscule chance?? I think that both the sex and the snorting tallies up about the same. You are absolutely right about how or when you were infected; so, don't let such stupid people bring you down.HepC is only preventable if one were to live a life in a cocoon!! Do we know anyone that does that?? The same with any of these so called smart people that want to put you in a permanent box labelled "drug addict - dealer"!! If they have to compartmentalize people - that's their problem not yours. You stand up just as tall as you can and answer any questions loud and with confidence. There is no reason for you to feel ashamed and view it as another person that you should arm with pamphlets etc. That way, they might actually get some education. Now, stage 4 is extremely serious stuff. There is no more stages past 4!!! It's also referred to as End Stage Liver Disease (ESLD). It means that your liver is cirrhotic and if it's not stopped, the cirrhosis will destroy your liver and thus your life. I am not a Dr or anything; but, this is exactly where I was when I began the clinical trial that I was on. Ok, today I am cured of HepC; but, I was left with liver cancer. That is a very bad side affect from cirrhosis. Last April, the surgeon performed a liver resection on me. He cut me open (11 inches) and literally cut big chunks of my liver out. However, I already have another "shadow" shown by Ultra Sound and CT Scan. I'm just waiting to have another CT Scan for verification. They do this by measuring the size of the "shadow".I truly hate that nutrition talk too. However, there is a fellow on another site that swears he is alive today because of some kind of shake he drank and the chemo pills. At this point, it sure couldn't harm me right??Gloria Hi, have not posted in a while. Juts wanted to let you all know that I got a GP here in Hawaii. Guest guest
nyWhen you get back the New Jersey, you have to start with the truth!!! You go to a good GP and allow them to do the blood tests that are needed to start. You can't tell them you never had HepC. Guest guest
Hi Gloria, thanks!yes the GP told me to ask the liver center the questions, but I hate them.yeah I know the pain meds are not too liver friendly, but they do help me get through the day without them I would be in bed all day unable to do anything.yeah I know I should not care what people think, but I get very emotional sometimes. When I say stage 4 it is from the liver biopsy which says stage 4 HCV compensated cirrhosis, so this is beginning cirrhosis. I am hoping that it just stays here at this stage as I know there are 4 stages of cirrhosis and I think not very serious until stage ( or I think they call then grades) 3 or 4. Guest guest
Hi Gloria, thank you.I am trying to get back to New Jersey or someplace with good doctors to treat this. New Jersey is the most likely due to family and lack of my own money.yes I know i will have to tell the truth about it all. I know if not treated and fixed it could lead to serious health problems with the liver.thanks, Hugs, nyOn Jan 15, 2011, at 7:15 PM, Gloria wrote: nyWhen you get back the New Jersey, you have to start with the truth!!! You go to a good GP and allow them to do the blood tests that are needed to start. You can't tell them you never had HepC. After all, the HepC can and will lead to other terrible liver problems if you don't start attacking it with a group of very good specialists. Hi Teri, thank so much!Yeah I guess not this GP had to go on the Internet to find information, came from HCV avocate, this disappointed me, I recognized the articles. I think that there should be some general trainning for them, call me a dreamer.Yes the hepatologists is the best bet, or maybe a GI doctor you has studied HCV, not sure the difference of seeing one over the other.yeah the whole pain management thing is very popular here, there are even magazines and a local TV show abut it here. They are usually based on Hawaiian Healing.I have learn my lesson say nothing, and lie, not really my nature but in this case I have too. Nobody can prove I did coke over 20 years ago!I still think Hep C is not preventable completely, yes there are certain things you can do to prevent it, like tattoos, and sharing drug stuff but I have heard(not sure if true) that people think they got it from the dentist, maybe be possible, now we have to see the dentist. So this confuses me, not sure if I will ever get it:(no the doctors have no plan, I feel they will try to get me off all meds, I have heard from other people they do this it is like detox(been there) and they leave you too suffer. My hope is when I get back to New Jersey I can start from scratch that is tell them I never had hep C.I did not know the it can progress and is doing damage to the liver all the time.thanks so much, hugs, nyOn Jan 15, 2011, at 2:42 PM, Theresa Gottlieb wrote: Oh my... Back before anyone knew what it was, not so much. Again, stigma's and stereotypes. Stage 4 liver disease is serious ny... very serious. And yes it can progress. You have active Hep C. It is doing damage to your liver all the time. So, my question to you is what is this doctor suggesting for dealing with your issues? Does he/she have any plan for treatment going forward? Can they help you? Hugs,TeriOn Sat, Jan 15, 2011 at 6:05 PM, Barrett <barrjohnm@...> wrote: Hi, have not posted in a while. Juts wanted to let you all know that I got a GP here in Hawaii. Juts wanted to let you all know that I got a GP here in Hawaii. She seems pretty good in general doctor stuff, but knows nothing about Hep C or the treatment, this is odd, right? Also I will have to see a pain management specialist, which I think there goal is to get me off pain killers, not sure what there plan is, but I did tell them I am in a lot of pain daily, and I refuse to be in pain. The part I did not like, I told them I used cole & sold it in my youth, but told them I have not sold or touched coke since I was 21, but I am still labeled as a drug addict and a drug dealer, they seemed concerned that I would try to sell the pain meds, not sure if people do that, but I said I would not as I need them.I really hate the stereo types once a drug dude always a drug dude! I went to jail in 1987, and when I came out I lived a clean life, drug wise anyway.Again they asked me how I got Hep C, I told them only GOD knows for sure, but they said you can get it from sex and snoring coke by sharing straws. I had to explain, okay maybe possible, but I don't think so as HCV is transferred by blood, point is no blood no transfer no HCV! I was also told that Hep C is preventable, somebody needs to explain this one to me.All in all I did not leave feeling that great about the whole thing, and don't believe there is any miracles out there, but I am willing to try and go into this with an open mind. This is one of those "Intergraded Health" things, maybe you heard about them combining medical with spitrual stuff.I was told regardless what I think stage 4 HCV is serious and can increase to higher stages if not careful. I thought if you were cool to your liver your stage would not increase. This came after a talk about diet(I hate Nutrition so much, the most aggravating conversion I could ever have, I hate it!) thanks,ny
Guest guest
I set 6 bottles in the fridg each night. In between I drink a glass of Sunny D. Then the water is more tolerable. If I even drink one less bottle, I can tell and then it takes a couple of days to feel right again.http://facebook.com/people/andTrudy-Kinsey/1340460877 " "A well- behaved woman never made history"...Mae Westhttp://oktravels.wordpress.com http://allrecipes.com/cook/TrudyK/profile.aspx On Jan 16, 2011, at 6:27 AM, Betty Himes <stayhungryforlife@...> wrote: ny, I do not drink enough of anything let alone water, so now that my kidneys are affected I am setting out 5 bottles of water each day 16 oz ea. When I say stage 4 it is from the liver biopsy which says stage 4 HCV compensated cirrhosis, so this is beginning cirrhosis. Guest guest
Hi Gloria,Yeah following a strict diet can make you crazy, I do watch my sodium intake, but following all the food labels stuff and always worrying makes me a little pysco. I should start juicing, I see that "Juice Man" commercial on TV, it looks like it is good.Yes I am very careful to be very kind to my liver now. I am looking into getting care here on a temp basis until I go back to New Jersey. I hope I will find it easier to find good doctors there.thanks so much,Hugs, nyOn Jan 15, 2011, at 7:39 PM, Gloria wrote: Now that was dumb - I hit the send button before I even responded.Anyway, please just know ny - don't play around with the stage 4 - cirrhosis.
