Hi Debbie

My Gastro doesnt think that I need a biopsy yet because my labs are so good.

I dont know what she is waiting on.

I also asked her about having a Fibroscan done, and she said it doesnt show enough, so she doesnt use it.

I will probably insist on a biopsy this fall when I see her next.

I want to know even if she doesnt.

Don,Question for you. You've yet to have a liver biopsy done, Right. You say you're labs are staying in the normal range. Well my labs have been in the normal range and look at the condition of my liver. Cirrhosis compensated stage. What is keeping you from having a liver biopsy if you haven't had one done yet. Mine went from grade 1 stage 1 to grade 3 stage 4 cirrhosis in just 2 yrs. Unless when they did my first biopsy they got the sample from an area that didn't show as much damage. Who knows. So how can you say your liver is not doing bad. Labs don't always tell the whole story. I can attest to that.Debbie------------------------------------

Don, My labs have always been good still are and now I'm in Cirrhosis. Two years

spent thinking my liver was doing fine. Only to find out it isn't, if I hadn't

had my gallbladder taken out last June, I would still be thinking it was all

good, because my labs were all normal.

Labs can be good and a biopsy can reveal a whole different set of truths....  Don, you need to insist on a biopsy.  Really, you do.On Sat, Jan 22, 2011 at 9:28 PM, Christ <ludichrist2000@...> wrote:

Don, I agree with Teri. You really do need a biopsy and insist on it. Take

charge and be your own advocate.

DonI know I've said this many times before; but, here goes again. I believe that everyone that is diagnosed with HepC should not be relying on the blood work alone. In my case, I had to have 3 bad blood work readings in order to qualify for our medical here. It wasn't explained to me very well; but, still, it was only the biopsy that showed just how damaged my liver was. Also, the blood work that was taken just before I began the clinical, was actually very normal. However, the biopsy showed cirrhosis. I don't remember where; but, I do know that I read that our liver enzymes will go back to normal, when we are actually in cirrhosis. Now,

having said all of that!! I don't mean that you need to get one immediately. Obviously, your blood work does not show much inconsistencies. Your HepC could very well be so slow moving that you will die of old age, before the HepC will get you.Gloria

Oh, something else I asked about..  the viral load does not in anyway indicate the amount of damage done or being done from the hep c.  It is just the number of replications found in that particular blood sample.  Granted, consistent high numbers do indicate that the hep c is running rampant but low numbers can give a false indication that little to no damage is being done.  Any numbers in a viral load is bad.  Damage is being done all the time.

I hope that makes sense...  in my head it does but not sure if it does in print....  On Sat, Jan 22, 2011 at 10:12 PM, Gloria <gadamscan@...> wrote:
