Hi Renonda--

I am about 3 weeks post-op and have experienced some nausea and

disequilibrium. Like you say, not really dizzy, but feeling off and

a little sick to your stomach. I have had meclizine prescribed for

this in the past, though others have recommended over the counter

motion sickness medicines like Dramamine. In both cases, these drugs

can cause sleepiness and care should be used when driving or the like.

I have found the feelings of nausea and disequilibrium have lessened

over the last couple of weeks, hopefully that will be the same for

too. Good luck.

Hi Renonda,

I was recently treated for non-positional vertigo (I don't have c-toma, my hubby does). My doctor told me to try Dramamine. Hope that helps.

Hi Renonda,

My son's ENT gave him a seasick patch behind his healthy ear after

surgery and some sort of electronic bracelet. He wore both of these

for 3 days after surgery and he didn't have any dizziness and much

less naseau than he'd had with all his tube surgeries. I'm going to

request both of these for his next surgery since they seemed to work.

Hi ,

Thanks for the suggestions. I forgot that our ENT also mentioned that by pressing on the inside of each wrist for a few seconds, sometimes helps alleviate the nausea feeling. This must be a pressure point or something. He said it does help for some people. The day we tried it, was SO sick, it didnt seem to help. (and then, of course,I forgot about it until now...lol) In any case, something to keep in mind.

Sincerely,

Renonda

-Trish,

For more info on autoimmune diseases in general try www.aarda.org -

that website lists some 80 diseases or disorders that are considered

to be autoimmune. Would be a starting point. Hope that helps.

Hi ,

as a fellow aussie I was please to see there is someone else in Aus

I could chat to. how is your grand-daughter doing?

Hope you have been able to find out the info you need, even doing a

search on google, as you have probably found, will get you some

pretty decent, accurate and informative advice. I have already had a

ctoma removed just over ten years ago from an excellent surgeon in

Brisbane where I live. Unluckily for me I have just found out it has

recurred but, be rest assured for your grand-daughter, this is not

common to have it come back regardless of all the postings you may

have seen on the CToma Group web site. I was early teens at the time

of my surgery, had no complications, regained around 50% of my

hearing and apart from a sore head for a week or two have no regrets

for having it removed as we did.

just thought I'd drop a line, hope things go well for your family,

Kerryn.

Hi Georgina:

Sorry to hear that Josh is feeling so crappy! It just plain stinks! I hope

and pray that the increase in dosages and TEMPORARY Prednisone do the trick

and get him feeling better ASAP.

Thanks for all the articles. I am looking forward to reading them all.

Take care.

Aloha,

Sorry about all the posts this evening. Don't mean to overwhelm anyone.

Just that it's been a while since I've been online and there was plenty

to catch up on. I know they all come in at once but please ... read them

at your own pace. Maybe save them all in one folder to have a look at

when you have some free time?

As usual, these days, I'm running. The three of us are off to the public

library in a moment, as soon as this gets sent, as Tuesday is their

late-night and they stay open til 8pm.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone, for all of your supportive

emails. Josh and I will sit down to read each one when we get back. He's

had a rough couple of weeks. Friday he had a day off from school but he

missed Wednesday and Thursday, as his arthritis was really holding him

back. Yesterday and today, too ... but he says he's ready to go back in

tomorrow.

Yesterday he took the first dose of a TEMPORARY return to Prednisone.

10mgs a day just for seven days. Hopefully all will work according to

that plan. This morning he actually took a shower, instead of a bath.

Still felt like he had a fever though, early on. It's been hovering

around 102 degrees every time we check, usually twice a day. Waking up

feeling just awful, morning stiffness lasting until around 11:30-12:00

(so we've been calling it daytime stiffness, instead) and then he'd feel

a bit better but still had a lot of stiff, sore joints, until the rash

and fever returned at around 6:30-7:00pm.

Not a fun time ... but all of your emails and warm thoughts did make him

feel a bit better. So, of course, has the prednisone. Again. He's also

still taking the increased dose of Plaquenil. And doctor said to go back

to weekly MTX again :( oh well.

Anyway, the kids are ready to go. Thank you, everyone.

With Much Aloha,

Georgina

Hi , I had my TRHR 3 months ago and for the last 2-3 weeks I

have been having pain there also. Sometimes it makes me want to sit

down and not walk. But it usually passes within an hour or so. My

doctor did an xray just to look, it was normal. He said that it is

common and it should go away. Did you have this pain at 3 months??

Have you seen your xrays and how far that stem goes into your thigh

bone? My pain is right at the end of the stem where the most

pressure is. I hope your fine, let us know what your Doctor says.

Take care,

Becky

Have you been to the doctor? I am so sorry you're not feeling well,

what a rotten time of the year for it... wish I knew what would make

you better!

So go to the doctor, stay warm and dry, and make other people wait on

you, okay? Meanwhile, you will be in my prayers...

Jeanetta,

Thank you for this post. I'd written my own personal letter to Mr. Medina

regarding his inappropriateness and was going to cc: it to you but you beat me

to the punch. I wish I could have directed this to you and Joe only because I

don't want to perpetuate the issue into a larger one. Please accept my apology

ahead of time but I don't have your personal e-mail.

I'm a board member for large pharmacy organization in a New England state and am

often asked by young technicians where they can go for help. Your site is on the

top of the links that I provide but if negative, derogatory posts continue as

Mr. Medina has provided lately, I'll no longer send people here.

Joe, thanks in advance for toning yourself down.

Tip of the day to everyone: After creating a post, read what you wrote several

times over ..think about what you wrote.. use delete key as needed.

Dear Ms Ellisor,

I am so proud and honored to know that you have sent

your young technicians to my site. I am also

embarrassed and saddened to learn that you may stop

sending them here, because of the behavior of a few.

Please know that I and my modertor have done and will

continue to do all that we can to keep the tone to a

professional level.

This, as all sites, takes much time and effort to man

and to preserve and to surveil. My heart aches to know

that others are judging my site on the actions of a

few. Please take a GOOD look through the files and

previous posts, to know and learn the actions of many

who have helped this site to grow to be honest,

helpful, and have integrity. My TEXPERTS and moderator

are to be commended.

Thank you so very much for your post. My private

email is the same as on my member list:

I did not address this privately because the comments

were not private, but in public. I felt I owed this to

my readers.

Joe, we all make mistakes, even I. So please do not

consider this or my previous post to be hurtful, but

rather helpful.

Hi ,

---

My name is Diane. I am mid 40's and am going in for my 6th surgery

for ctoma since first one in 1997. I have experienced the same type

of pain you are talking about each time i've had surgery. Keep taking

your pain meds on time but what I did that helped was to take

ibuprofen(advil) inbetween the pain meds. This seemed to boost

the pain relief- it took about two weeks for that to stop. I also

have gone back for reconstruction for my hearing and it has worked

it was great to get my hearing back. Unfortunately the c toma keeps

coming back and they keep having to remove it and rebuild my hearing.

I feel for you - I am so not looking forward to June 24-05 but the

pain from the infected mastoid bone is so strong now I am looking

forward to having this removed again. Good luck I hope you feel

better soon.
