Guest guest
hello vicki, everytime you fuse, it puts more pressure on those above and below the fusion so that eventually you will probably need more surgery, so far to me, (i had s1 thru l4 fused) it's a lose lose situation. I havent noticed too many people singing the praises of fusion. I'm sorry that your back is starting to bother you again, and I hope you can avoid surgery. Guest guest
Hi Mel, Yes I can just get so angry and then I turn it in ward to myself as I am not good enough because of my JRA he hates me and he always seems to have the time to tell me in some way. Hey break a leg for a living, now what a nice idea. ha ha ha ha. Although I have been in so much pain I couldn't think of inflecting pain on anyone even my worst enemy. I am just so worried about where we will move and how and all the packing and stuff. Man couldn't sleep at all. And then to top it all off he is so mean about it!!! Ha ha ha ha I like the idea of watching Earl. ha ha ha yes just what I needed. I went to my Rhumy today and after telling her of all this she gave me wellbretrim I don't know the spelling as I don't have them here by me, but the pharmacy told me to take them at night only, yet the bottle says once a day. Now why on earth would I want to take them when I am sleeping???? I need them during the day when he comes by or keeps calling me to do something for him. I need them now not at night. So, I guess I will have to call her and ask her when can I start. It says in the note with the pills that it can make you dizzy and sleepy so that sure will help at night too. Thank you so much for the laugh I needed that and also for your good ideas. Hugs; paulette Coomes <michellecoomes@...> wrote: AMEN to that Mel! Guest guest
Welcome Kathy! You are just a young thing!!! I'm 56 and was just banded in March. Wouldn't change it for the world. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Just want to welcome you to the best message board out there!!!!! I hope you feel as comfortable here as I do. I am right behind you in age. I will be 42 on the day of my surgery which is the 27th of April. I can totally relate to you about the money issue. This was my problem also. I sent in my deposit I think in February and gave myself 2 months to save up the money. I dont know if you have tried applying for the medical insurance but I asked about the in-house financing through Dr. A. He will finance $3200.00 and then you pay the balance of $4500.00 plus your $500.00 deposit. Yes it will be the toughest waiting period you will ever encounter!! But actually it really is moving right along and I will be banded soon!! Good Luck To You!! Tammy Irish
Guest guest
Welcome back Karlie!!!! We missed you. As soon as you get your first fill you will definitely see a change in your weight loss. Everything we lose before the first fill is just a bonus. You are at the stage right now where you are all healed up and can pretty much eat anything. That will change :0) Once you get a fill you will experience REAL restriction for the first time. I am so glad you are back. We are a FAMILY here and support everyone that needs it. I would have NEVER done well without the advice from my fellow bandsters on this group. I am sure you will learn from many and we will all learn from you. The future bandsters will learn from your experiences as well. Please keep us posted on how your fill goes. I have heard GREAT things about Dr Fitzpatrick. Have a great day! Banded 7/20/05 210/155/140 Hi everyone After an encourging talk with I have decided to give the board another shot. I have joined a few other boards but feel out of place since I had my surgery in Mexico. I have been very discourged laitley since I am not losing any weight. I can eat everything but steak and cheese and pretty much as much as I want. I get my first fill on May 9th with Dr. Fitzpartick here in Oregon and I can't wait. My biggest problem will be not drinking with my meals or for two hours after. I hope everyone is doing good. I have been wondering how Tammi Irish is doing since her surgery. I know she was very excited to have it and only hope that she is doing well with her weight loss.Take care and I look forward to reading everyones posts. And , thanks so much for the phone call. Guest guest
Karlie, I have heard great things about Dr. Fitzpatrick, I think you will do great with her. Please remember that even after your fill you will not lose weight if you drink with your meals, this totally defeats the purpose of the band. What helps a lot is " water loading " drink a lot of water, lots of it, up until 15 minutes before your meal. This way you will be sure of not being thirsty during your meal. Not being thristy will help. As Dr. Aceves probably told you on the talk he had before surgery , do not place a beverage in front of you when you eat, this will help with the impulse of reaching for the glass. This is one of the heardest things to change but it is one of the most important. Nina > > After an encourging talk with I have decided to give the board > another shot. Guest guest
Hey Everyone, I have an idea. I hope I don't drive everyone crazy. I would LOVE to do what I call a Roll-Call. Can everyone on this site write a little blurp to check in with us all. I would love to hear how everyone is doing. Maybe your successes and struggles. Maybe you could post your weight statistics, etc. I know I have been a lurker at times and don't post as much as I should. It would be a great way for all of us to touch base and to truly get to know our Bandster Family. If you think I am whacked, I understand. If not, lets all post our own update. Let us all get to know you. If you have a struggle - I know there are many with GREAT advice. If you have a SUCCESS, share it. WE all can support and learn from each other. I will start. My name is . I live in Lake s, WA I was banded on July 20, 2005. I love my band-it has changed my life. I injured my back 2 years ago and my weight crept up very fast. I weighed 210 before I went in to see Dr Aceves. I have a very active job. I teach massage and have a busy massage practice. With my excessive weight and bad back I was seriously wondering if I could continue in the profession I love. I lucked out when one day I had a Dr on my massage table. I let him know my frustration and he told me about the band. I did some research and within 2 weeks I found Dr Aceves. I love that man and his whole staff. I have had several surgeries, including a fluke Open heart back in 1996. I can honestly say I had NEVER been treated so well in my life than with Dr A and his staff. My Struggle: After my first fill I struggled with Productive Burping. I have 4 kids and I am ALWAYS in a hurry. My biggest struggle has been to slow down. To chew my food. I think I was the Queen of PB'ing. Since I have figured out to eat slow I have realized that food tastes sooo much better. I am actually taking the time now to taste food for the first time. Before I shoveled it in and really never tasted the food. I love food now, but in a different way. I savor it. Now my struggle is to find time to exercise. I know the last 15 lbs I need to lose will be the hardest. The weight before this has been to easy. Thanks to the band. My Successes: Wow, where do I start. I have so much energy now. My back is almost completely healed. I was in a size 20 pants and now I am in an 8/10. I like to go shopping and I smile all the time. My husbands and kids are experiencing a much happier wife and Mother. My clients are even noticing my increased energy. I can't tell you how great it feels when someone I have not seen in a year stops cold, with their jaw wide open and asks what in the world happened to me. I love my band and would not give it back for a million dollars. Stats: Starting weight 210+ Current weight 155 Goal weight 140 or less I would love to hear from ALL of you. I KNOW we can learn from each other. Some have reached their goal. How did you do it? Some are struggling either without having a fill yet, with PB'ing, with weight stalls, shoulder pain, etc. I know you can help someone or all of us. Or we can help you. Thanks for putting up with me. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you :0) Hi everyone After an encourging talk with I have decided to give the board another shot. Guest guest
Hi Karlie!! My little ticker friend is back!! LOL I am glad you are back and as I stated in a prior post I will try not to talk about my personal life hear. I was not aware that I could just IM someone and it only go to that one person. So that is what I have been doing. My surgery went very well. Tomorrow will be 1 week post-op and I feel great! My incisions are itching really bad so I can not wait for the 10 days to get here so I can take my stitches out. Today I am finding myself VERY HUNGRY!! My tummy wont quit growling!! The growling is partly because I feel Hungry and partly because of the diarrhea I still am having. Its not as bad but it is definantly making its presence known!!LOL Yea, I am not looking forward to the pre fill stage where you are at. It seems that at that point everyone is so hungry and can eat just about anything. That scares me because I no myself and I can pack on 10 pounds in a weeks time if I wanted too. Your fill day is soon approaching and then all will be great. I am glad to see you are back!! Take Care, Tammy Irish DOB-4/20/06 Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Hi, I am new to this group. I have not had my lapband surgery yet, I hope to have the money saved by September. Perhaps it is timely to see your Roll-Call email, - so I can hear what you guys have to say about the experience. I am relieved to hear that Dr. Aceves and his staff and facilities are top-notch, contrary to the common misconception about over the border medical procedures. I guess I will find out what productive burbing is by reading past emails (although like most of you, time is a rare luxury). I have not told anyone but my husband about this surgery. I think I should keep it quiet. Especially if I don't lose much weight from it. Have you guys kept it pretty quiet? I don't see the need for my kids or anyone else to know. Thanks, Nani > > Hey Everyone, > > I have an idea. I hope I don't drive everyone crazy. I would LOVE to do what I call a > Roll-Call. Guest guest
Hi Nani, Welcome to the group and congratulations on your decision to have the surgery!! I did keep it pretty quiet also. I only told my sister, husband and my kids new. That was it!! I knew what the response would be so I kept it quiet. My sister nor my husband was real thrilled with the idea. But when I told my husband he said there was no way I was doing there and I had to tell him oh yes I was! I did print out all the info for my Dad and mailed it to him the day before I was to have my surgery. He was worried but he understood my decision. I too, had to wait a couple of months before my surgery date. I needed to save up the money also. The time did go by pretty fast. It will for you too. So where are you from Nani?? I am going to sit down in a little while and do my Bio that suggested. I do think thats a great idea. Take care, Tammy I. DOB-4/20/06 goes everywhere you do. Get it on your phone. Guest guest
Hey Nani, Great to hear form you! I didn't tell anyone else except my husband before surgery either. There are too many "Nay Sayers" out there that are ignorant to the band and the awesome medical community in Mexico. I didn't want to have to answer to anyone and to have people watching my every move/bite when I got home. I take that back. I did tell my Mom since she loaned me the money :0) She was frantic about Mexico. The day I got home I was soooo excited at my wonderful experience I decided to tell everyone. This can be such a life changing experience for so many, I wanted to tell everyone about Dr Aceves and how easy the surgery was. I totally understand not wanting to tell others at first. You are doing this for you and no one else. Put your self first and get ready for a life changing experience. You are going to love your band! Regarding PB'ing. A Productive Burp is when a person banded eats too fast or doesn't chew enough and the food gets stuck. It is a burp to clear the food. I was really worried about this until I did it the first time. It is not a big deal. I was the Queen of PB'ing (not a good thing). It took me a while to learn to eat slow and to actually chew my food. It is a learned thing and most of us have had to PB a few times to get the hang of eating. I just was a slow learner :0) I wish you the best of luck. You are in the BEST of hands with Dr Aceves. I look forward to hearing about your journey :0) Banded 7/20/05 210/155/140 Hi everyone> > > After an encourging talk with I have decided to give the board > another shot. Guest guest
Hi , Great Idea. Its interesting to see how everyone is actually doing. This is a better and easier way to see it. My name is Tammy Irish. I live in Chatsworth, California which is in the San Valley (southern california) I was banded on April 20th 2006 so this is all very new to me. I was banded by Dr. Acevas in Mexicalli and would'nt change a thing. Dr Acevas and all his staff are such wonderful people. STRUGGLES: My struggles are with my fluid intake. I can't seem to drink enough at all. I am one that only drinks only with my meals and usually no other time. So this is really hard for me. Another struggle is with diarrhea!! I thought it was just with the broths but I found out today that this is not the case!! Tea has the same effect on me also. SUCCESSES: Well, My success' thus far would be that I finally did something for me and had this surgery. Since it is so early into my new way of life I am just trying to make friends with my band (LOL). I have lost 11 pounds as of today but I know that these are all "Bonus Pounds." I guess my last one is that I am NOT sick of my broths yet!! (LOL) But I still have a whole week longer so this will probably change by then!! Tammy I. DOB-4/20/06 How low will we go? Guest guest
Penny, I'm dying on the vine here. I was so smug about not being very hungry on the protein preop diet, taking in small amounts of food and losing a bunch of preop wt. But now, I'm so hungry! Granted, I am not using Isopure - scared off by all the bad reviews. Nothing has calories in it. I have sugar-free jello, broth (a few calories), "diet" cranberry juice, tea, Crystal Light. My tummy is full all the time because I keep drinking and drinking (urine was concentrated for a day and a half so had to step up the water). Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Phyllis, I made the same mistake that you are making. I can't drink the Isopure, because it just won't go down. So I was having the same things that you are, I had no energy and I was very edgy. Which is hard with 4 boys. I went back and read the post op papers, and realized that I should also be drinking regular fruit juice, 17oz/day, and Gatorade, 17oz/day, both have higher calories than anything else that I was having. I feel so much better, and my weight loss actually sped up with higher calorie intake. Try this and see if it helps. My tummy is full all the time because I keep drinking and drinking (urine was concentrated for a day and a half so had to step up the water). Thanks! Guest guest
Phyllis, I really feel for you!! I had the head hunger but not the physical hunger so don't have any more suggestions. It will get better when you can have the full liquid diet. I watched soooo much Food Network those first few weeks so I could live/eat vicariously with Raye, Emeril and all the others. I don't recommend it because Then I couldn't get some of the goodies out of my mind! It was bad because it was just before Thanksgiving and they all were doing all the holiday stuff and I kept thinking and dreaming about the goodies! My daughter, Carla, and I even watched the gingerbread house competition and that about did both of us in! best wishes for a busy week and keep up the good work. Hang in there! Guest guest
he has been limping for two months straight...no one seemed to want to diagnose him with anything but synovitis. then we got into uc davis and had a fabulous pediatric orthopedist there who took one look at him and said it was jra. the most common form, pauciarticular i believe. lots to learn. after readin more and more on the internet i'm becoming a little frightened. are all of your children suffering?? has it been terrible for them? i just want my little guy to be okay. we are in chico, california. not a lot of resources here. heard the closest ped. rhem. is in san francisco. is anyone in this area? --- Lynn Comer <wvbound83@...> wrote: > , > ~Welcome~ This is a great place to talk > to others whom have kids with jra, sorry to hear > about youre lil one tho' unfortunatly, this monster > doesn't care how old one is. Guest guest
, It is VERY scary at first and especially when you start reading all about what could happen. In our situation, Elaney was dx when she was 8. She was dx with pauciarticular also. At the time, she limped but did not seem to have much pain. IN fact, she was just a " normal " acting kid except for that limp. She now has what they call Oligoarticular Extended. It just means that she now has more than 4 joints with arthritis. She still acts like a pretty " normal " kid. The meds have helped greatly. She takes Methotrexate, Voltaren, and Folic Acid. She does not limp anymore. Good luck with everything and I pray that your son gets to feeling better soon. IT WILL GET BETTER!--- & Elaney(12 JRA) ERIK OTTERLEI <erikate15@...> wrote: he has been limping for two months straight...no one seemed to want to diagnose him with anything but synovitis. then we got into uc davis and had a fabulous pediatric orthopedist there who took one look at him and said it was jra. the most common form, pauciarticular i believe. lots to learn. after readin more and more on the internet i'm becoming a little frightened. are all of your children suffering?? has it been terrible for them? i just want my little guy to be okay. we are in chico, california. not a lot of resources here. heard the closest ped. rhem. is in san francisco. is anyone in this area? --- Lynn Comer <wvbound83@...> wrote: > , > ~Welcome~ This is a great place to talk > to others whom have kids with jra, sorry to hear > about youre lil one tho' unfortunatly, this monster > doesn't care how old one is. Guest guest
I'm sorry that you are joining us but glad you found us. Are all the children suffering? No, definetly not. Does JRA get in the way of things? Sometimes. My best friend in high shool had pauci but has been in full unmedicated remission since she was 14 (over 25 years). My aunt's next door neighbor has been in full unmedicated remission for 10 years. There are who have similar stories. But they all can lead great productive lives. Since he is two years old, I would call you local school district and see if they have a Birth to Three or similar program where they can provide him with therapy and teach you some ideas of how to keep his joints limber. Encourage him to do what he can and keep active. He may get more tired at night and he may have some swelling but activity is good. Reading on the internet can be quite scary but with all the great treatment options of today, it doesn't need to be. There are risks and there are still serious problems that can come about but this is a new era for those with the disease. Come to us and vent as needed. We sympathize. I know from others that if you haven't been told that those with pauci are more at risk for eye involvement if they have ceratin markers. If it hasn't been suggested, it is a good idea to take him to the eye doctor for an exam. e, mom to joe 20 poly + lupus ERIK OTTERLEI <erikate15@...> wrote: he has been limping for two months straight...no one seemed to want to diagnose him with anything but synovitis. then we got into uc davis and had a fabulous pediatric orthopedist there who took one look at him and said it was jra. the most common form, pauciarticular i believe. lots to learn. after readin more and more on the internet i'm becoming a little frightened. are all of your children suffering?? has it been terrible for them? i just want my little guy to be okay. we are in chico, california. not a lot of resources here. heard the closest ped. rhem. is in san francisco. is anyone in this area? --- Lynn Comer <wvbound83@...> wrote: > , > ~Welcome~ This is a great place to talk > to others whom have kids with jra, sorry to hear > about youre lil one tho' unfortunatly, this monster > doesn't care how old one is. Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your son's struggles. There are folks here on the list in your area. I know that (one of our young adults) is there and has seen a ped rheumy in San Francisco, I believe. She is unfortunately having family issues right now, and may not be able to post soon. You can check the list on the site, under files and look for the heading " current drs list " . Click on that and you can see some drs listed for California. I am not sure which would be near you, but at least it's a start. My son is not suffering. He did have some tough years, but once we got the meds figured out, he did a lot better. He currently is off his meds (at his choice) and only will take ibuprofen as needed. Some mornings he is still stiff and some days after work, but all in all he is doing well. Having the form of arthritis he has, he will have to deal with issues all his life, most likely. Some kids may " outgrow " JRA; go into a medicated remission, or even a full remission. It really depends on the child. You cannot predict what will happen. Learn as much as you can, and remember you are the best advocate for your child. This list is a great source of info and support. Vent here whenever you need to, ask questions, read old posts (lots of medical info there), whatever will help you through. Guest guest
Thank you Joe, for your kind words. You have a good product and service and I am proud to allow you advertisement four times a year, as per my standard advertising policy. Your book/CD is also among those that I have reviewed and recommend in the files study guide section. When will you latest edition(s) be available? By the way do you still have the second chance review books avaiable? If so how much are they? Several posters have shown interest in used books.
