HI Teri, thank so much!Yeah I know that my treatment,as hell as it was it took me longer to clear, and I did not finish. I have also seen that late responders like me, sometimes not respond in the long run get SVR. Sounds like the hcv is making all the copies and making more now ad all the time. I really DON'T want to do the treatment again, but I know I need to! I am hoping to get to NJ in 2 months or so, in the mean time I am trying to get my health back so the spring/summer I can be healthy enough to treat.Hugs,nyOn Jan 23, 2011, at 9:47 AM, Theresa Gottlieb wrote:

Yes ny, the treatment did kill a lot of them.. most of them actually, but treatment was stopped before it was done. You took a bit longer to hit that undetectable spot which wasn't a good sign to start with. You would have needed the entire 48 weeks and even then, there is a possibility, actually a pretty good one, that you wouldn't have cleared anyway. What happens after tx is stopped is that the virus tends to mutate... it changes forms and replicates more... spilling more of the new clones into your system. At this point you are going to need one of the new medications.. the protease inhibitors, to clear this virus. Those drugs will be out in MAY. You need to get well before then. A big part of you getting healthy is getting you to good doctors.. Do you have a timeline to get to New Jersey?

Hi Don,thank you so much for this explanation!I think I get it the process.I was hoping since the treatment killed many of them they would be gone forever, but it does not seem this way.

I understand alot better, but this scares me :(I know diet is important, but Nutrition makes me crazy, especially talking with my old boss about it. I used to not mind hearing about Nutrition and food labels, but now it makes me crazy. I try to eat good fruits, veggies good things. I do read the food labels to se how much sodium in it as I know I can't have sodium.

thank so much,Hugs, nyOn Jan 22, 2011, at 8:34 PM, Christ wrote:

Hi

That is exactly what happens.

The HCV keeps reproducing and growing in numbers.

As the HCV numbers grow, so do the dead liver cells - thus more and more cirrhosis.

As long as a person has HCV, [or HBV] the damage is happening.

This is how it works -

- A HCV copy enters a liver cell from the bloodstream.

- The HCV copy uses the RNA in the liver cell to reproduce itself.

- This kills the liver cell - thus cirrhosis.

- Then both copys of the HCV go back into the blood stream.

- The HCV copys do this over and over, eventually destroying the liver.

Do you understand this simple process?

Now you still have HCV, even though your treatment destroyed a lot of the HCV copys.

As long as you have HCV, the numbers will keep growing, and more and more liver cells are being destroyed.

This is why it is important for us all to slow down the HCV, and eventually treat, and get rid of the HCV once and for all.

This is why Teri and I tell you to eat a good diet and take care of yourself.

Doing this may slow down the HCV, and make your liver last longer.Diet is VERY important .

Don,Question for you. You've yet to have a liver biopsy done, Right. You say you're labs are staying in the normal range. Well my labs have been in the normal range and look at the condition of my liver. Cirrhosis compensated stage. What is keeping you from having a liver biopsy if you haven't had one done yet. Mine went from grade 1 stage 1 to grade 3 stage 4 cirrhosis in just 2 yrs. Unless when they did my first biopsy they got the sample from an area that didn't show as much damage. Who knows. So how can you say your liver is not doing bad. Labs don't always tell the whole story. I can attest to that.
