Hi, My dog eats raw foods. It's been few days and she's on strike--no food, yes little water. Maybe now sick or maybe dental problems. Can't figure it out. Weekend here and we know we have to get her in Monday if we don't see signs of improvement. No odor from mouth....she's not complaining, but just walking around and not her chipper self. Holistic help wanted please. Thanks. carolg

Hi Carol,

Does she poop/pee? Does she usually eat with gusto? How many days

did she quit eating? What did you feed her last? How many years did you

feed raw? How old is she? Guess there are lots of questions... But it

could be so many different reasons.

Did you check her teeth? My dog also had a bone stuck one time on

the upper palate. But she would paw at her mouth, thats how I found out.

My male sometimes walks away from his food. He is slim and very

active. But usually the next day he'll eat. He does get upset stomach

off and on and will have to go out (like emergency) and eat grass like

hi is obsessed.

Dogs can go without food for days and not have a problem. I wouldn't

force anything into her. If you think there could be a partial blockage

my vet recommended " physillium husk " to move things through. He says

he's seen real good results with that. Ifshe still drinks water and

doesn't throw it up, than you can be pretty sure that she doesn't have

a complete blockage. You might try to give her a cookie, just to see if

she'll eat it and keep it down.

I've been feeding raw to 5 plus dogs for 5 years now. Personally I

just watch my dogs if they don't feel 100% or if I'm really concerned

I'll call my homeopath.

Even if she has the flu or dental problem, it shouldn't be an

emergency and unless she starts feeling really bad I would just wait a

few days. But you have to decided how you feel about it.

Hope this helps any christa

Christa, For the sake of everyone here giving update: she ate a tiny bit of tuna that hubby bought her, not raw, but to get response. I can't talk poop/pee as she doesn't usually do her "stuff" near the house. We live on over acre too. When I came home, opened door, my husband said she flew out door perhaps back to normal to chase those irritating teasing bunnies all around here. I'll keep you updated. How would I give her the psyllium husks? She doesn't seem to drink tons, eating is not one of her favorite activities either. I was wondering if she got some sort of a bite even though it has been cold, but it could have been a dormant flock of criters. No she doesn't eat bones but grown in her food that I buy that way part of my Redbird order mix. Thanks. Email me privately if need be. Thanks. carolg hovipups

Carol, don't laugh, but sometimes animals go on a fast for a few days. They really do.
