Your mom is right... Juicing by Guy Lacroix Juicing is one of the greatest ways to intake a large quantity of nutrients from fresh vegetables and fruits. It is also one of the best ways to take in fresh enzymes that will rebuild the cells of your body and basically rejuvenate you. In an 8 oz glass of juice, which can be absorbed by your body within minutes, you can easily drink the equivalent of 6-8 whole carrots. On the other hand, it would be difficult to eat all those carrots at one sitting without feeling stuffed. This is because of the cellulose contained in the vegetables that acts as fiber. During juicing, the cellulose and the fiber are

removed; a filter allows through only the juice of the vegetable or fruit, which contains all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes. When taken on an empty stomach, juice is basically able to bypass the stomach and go directly to the small intestine where it gets absorbed into the bloodstream. Juice can bypass the stomach because the stomach's main function is to break down solid food into a liquid state, which can then be assimilated in the small intestine. Because juice is already in a liquid state, it can pass through more rapidly than solid food. Keep in mind that cellulose and fiber are still essential to the body for helping cleanse the colon and ensuring regularity. You will get these essential elements in your diet by continuing to eat salads and whole fruits in addition to drinking juices. Now, there are some purists who say that extracting the juice from fruits and vegetables

and separating the cellulose is not a natural way of eating because it is not found in this state in nature. They say that we should get enough nutrients from the whole foods alone. That may have been sufficient in the past, when the air and the land were not as contaminated; but these are unnatural times we live in and we need all the help we can get. The amount of toxicity in our environment and the lack of nutrients in our foods due to land erosion are ever increasing. Also, remember that non-organic foods are laden with chemical residues and are increasingly likely to be genetically engineered. We must take drastic measures to counteract these obstacles. We need to get our nutrients in large quantities in an efficient manner if our bodies are going to be resistant to this onslaught. Juicing simply makes sense when facing this daily challenge.Gayla <goatclearing@...>

After juicing just add the pulp back into and stir. Then consume. The

body needs the fiber to slow down the absorption of sugars. Otherwise

you get a blood sugar spike. Course this depends on what one is

juicing. Celery has little sugar in it whereas beets and fruits have a

fair amount.

"Your mom is right..."

Darn, darn, darn! I guess we can grate carrots and broccoli etc into the salads. She is taking Vicodan which apparently plugs her up. I know she does not drink enough water, she drinks coffee and wine. Well, she's 83, so changes will be slow if possible at all! Fresh juices will be good, fiber or not. Thanks!

Gayla,

When you juice, there is no fiber left. That’s why some people like to

drink juice – so it gets absorbed by your body quicker. I use a Vita Mix all the time –

because I want the fiber. You need fiber for a healthy colon. I put in all kinds of good stuff, and

drink the whole food, instead of the extract from the food. I use whole broccoli, whole kale,

etc. With a juicer you are not only

throwing away the fiber, you are also losing some of the juice itself. With the Vita Mix, the fiber gets broken

down so fine that it releases more juice from the veggie/fruit cells, than a

juice extractor can do. And since a

juicer can’t pulverize the cell walls, lots of juice gets thrown out. The Vita Mix blade travels at 250 mph,

which pulverizes whole foods down to their cellular level. So you are not throwing anything away,

you keep all the fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients,

etc.
