Guest guest
It's probably gone rancid. When my butter has turned it smells cheesy. Guest guest
The first raw butter I bought had a cheezy taste. The farmer who sold it to me and got it from Pennsylvania said it was okay but I could return it to him. I used it. The second time I got it they had salted it with Celtic Sea salt and it was not cheesy. Still want it unsalted and not cheezy. Can you return the butter? Guest guest
Thanks Ellen, I did return the butter and they gave me a refund, no problems. I buy the same butter all the time and it has never smelt like that before. I had eaten a little bit of it, but I was a bit worried to go on eating it just in case it was off. I don't think butter should smell at all. Bye for now ekhillgardner <ellen2@...> wrote: The first raw butter I bought had a cheezy taste. Guest guest
I have had raw butter with an " off " cheesy taste before. if it is raw butter, it is still fine to eat (although it may not taste too good!) - it is naturally " souring " like raw milk does when you leave it out at room temp, or how it gets after a week in the fridge. If the butter was pasteurized though, it may not be ok to eat and is essentially molding I guess.
