, I used to drink dandelion root for an ovarian cyst. How

often should one drink it for diuretic benefit. Also if I were to

use pancreatin, how often - how much? I usually avoid taking

supplements because I like to get my nutrition from the food and I

guess I have an aversion to popping pills at least on any long term

basis.

Lack of potassium is my first thought with fluid

retention. Pills are easiest because foods may be an

avoid or high carb which can also cause retention.

Chelated form 99mg, take as needed.Usually one a day.

Also check urine pH and amke sure you are acid enough

to digest protein. pH 6.2 to 6.6 is best

Hi There Mustang Baby,

Are you watching your salt intake? Sometimes when I eat a little more salt

then I should I will swell up. From the sounds of your daily food intake,

you are doing just fine. What is this " Luna Bar " thing?

Hi Cheryl, I have always had a pretty moderate salt intake. I border

on low blood pressure and find that I have more problems if I cut

back the salt. I have never had a fluid retention problem before.

Luna Bars are made by the people who make Clif Bars. They are sold

in HFS and such here in CA. A few of them have avoids in them but

most of them seem to be OK for O's. They are designed for women and

have no wheat or dairy or corn syrup. My favorite has the following

ingredient list, if you see anything that O's should not eat, please

let me know:

Soy Protien Isolate, Rolled Oats, Soy Flour, Rice Flour, roasted soy

beans, crisp rice, malt, flaxseeds, brown rice syrup, evaporated cane

juice, fractionated palm kernel oil, soy milk, soy lecithan, lemon

oil, citric acid, and decaf green tea extract. 180 cal, 10g of

protien, 4g of fat and tons of vitamins.

They hit the spot when I am starving and tempted to eat something

worse like cookies or popcorn or bread.

Aloha!

Go to Spinal and press the LYMPH button and see which is the highest.

In TIMED THERAPIES there's a program for sluggish lymph. However, if

she's not moving at least fifteen minutes a day (marching in place

will do), how is the jello (lymph) gonna move the toxins out thru the

kidneys? I would also work on the spleen and stomach meridians --

there is a point on the spleen -- called EARTH MOTIVATOR which pushes

the sludge out--Spleen 8. She may also be holding onto something --

if her FINGERS are fat. Something she may not be letting go of. A

person? Money? Property? Does she have trouble paying you? NLP is

such an important part of getting to the pink heart of the grasshopper.

And of course, is she drinking enough water? If you don't know how to

drink water properly, e mail me and I'll send you my handout that I

give to patients. You have three ounces with meals only and don't

drink for an hour and a half after meals, etc. Some people drink the

water but they gulp it down. The cells aren't quick enough to swoop

up the liquid. You gotta sip. Anyway, you may already know this stuff.

Good luck.

I have this same problem and take a diuretic when I can feel it coming on. I can tell by my breathing before the edema is visible. I have gotten to where I don't' need the diuretic but a couple times a month, unless I increase my fluid intake. I also notice that my right leg and ankle hold more fluid than the left. I might suggest that you keep track of your fluid intake and try to guess how much output you are having compared to the intake. It could be that you are taking in more fluids than your system can process. Sandie -- Fluid Retention Dear Friends, I have had FMS and CMP, for 16 years. I would like to hear anyones opinion on what they think about the following. I'm having a real problem with fluid retention. For years I have had occasional fluid retention that seems to be related to excess sodium intake, hot weather and menstral cycles (the usual things). For the past number of years it has become gradually worse and more frequent. It happens at least 90% of the time now. I wake up in the a.m. and i have puffy eyes and face and my rings are tight. By the end of the day my feet and legs are puffy. I have been reducing my sodium intake and it is now around 300 to 500mg per day. That's all. I am 48 yrs old and I am very thin (too thin) and always have been,(5' 9", 120 lbs, ). I

eat a high protein, low carb diet due to lack of tolerence of many,

many grains including rice. I have Type "O" blood. My diet is quite

limited due to IBS. I eat almonds, pecans, honey, apple sauce,

chicken, turkey, eggs (occasionally), broccoli, cauliflouwer, green

beans, lettuce, cesar salad dressing, butter and some wheat products

which I tolerate better than other grains. As I said, the fluid

retention is more and more frequent--almost everyday now.

My doc has suggested diuretics and has done blood work to rule out

liver, kidney and heart problems. He doesn't know why it's

happening. I can't reduce my sodium level too much more as 300mg/day

is low already. I don't want to take diuretics because that just

treats the symptom not the problem. Daily I take Cal/mag, potassium

500mg, coQ10 100mg, ester C, b complex, digestive enzymes, probiotic,

zinc 50 mg, vit E (just started that). I also take Elavil 10 mg at

bedtime. I take other Rx meds too but thats the only Rx med that I

take that might cause fluid retention apparently. A weird thing

about the situation is that my right foot/ankle puffs up more that my

left--for no apparent reason.

Whenever I get my B12 level checked it is alway sky high--off the

scale. The report says greater than 1100. My total B12 intake is

100 micrograms per day in my B complex capsule. This doesn't make

sense because most people, as we know, have low B12 and have to

supplement with high doses or injections.

I'm wondering if it may be food intolerences that are causing the

fluid problem but I don't know what I'll eat if that's the case,

since I don[t tolerate a whole lot of different foods now.

Does anyone have any ideas of what might be going on? I would

really appreciate your help. Thankyou in advance.

Sandie,

Thanks for your reply. I don' know if I should decrease my fluid

intake because a naturopath told me(and I have read this in articles too)

that people should increase fluid intake when they have fluid

retention. My sodium intake is very low to begin with (< 300mg

and sometimes 500mg) and on days that I have extra sodium I balloon up

quite puffy. Diuretics deplete potassium, etc as well and I take

potassium for leg cramps. I would be taking a diuretic almost

everyday because it is now happening almost everyday. I just don't

know what to do anymore.

Hi Lin, I agree with you. I wouldn't decrease my fluid intake...I might drink even more fresh water and see what happens. My hands/fingers seemed to swell frequently a few years ago but that doesn't seem to happen anymore. I'd thought it was a 'rite of passage' for FM or something. :) We can get so many weird things.

I wonder if you're getting more sodium in your diet than you realize. It can be hidden in so many things these days. I hope you find the answer soon.

Lin what I was getting at was if there is a difference between the fluid intake and fluid output that you are having, this is a good thing to see if you are processing fluids in the body correctly. What are your sodium levels on your eletrolyte tests? I take 10meq of potassium a day myself plus I drink at least 8 ounces of the minute maid orange juice that has the plant sterols for my cholesterol. But on days that I need to take my diuretic I take an extra potassium. As a nurse, I have seen the side effects of not having the right balance of electrolytes. Also what medications do you take? Some medications can cause fluid retention. I have to take steroids daily because of my polymyalgia rhuematica and giant cell arteritis, so I know that is part of my fluid retention problems. fluid retention

Hello:

I have been supplementing with 12.5mgs x 2 a day, I have run out of these pills and am waiting for the new shipment. I am having terrible fluid retention, can this be due to lack of Iodine (Iodoral)?

Thank you,

Hi,

I have been retaining fluid in my abdomen and legs 24/7 for 29 days now. I

started on a Thursday like it did back then due to PMS. Normally it would go

away by Sunday but it never did. I look like I am pregnant (no gas) and my

lower body is equally swollen so that everything is tight. I am not sure

what to do about it. I read the file about causes for fluid retention but

none of it seemed like it fit. Why would this suddenly happened and continue

this long? It couldn't be retracing because the longest I have ever retained

fluid 24/7 in a row is 14 days and I have way exceeded that.

Please help.

Thanks,

a,

I have been reading in the recent group messages about potassium and

bloating. I have had a swollen right ankle since I started the

program. So I decided to take the potassium and it has helped with

my swelling and body bloating and my fatigue. I am eating vegetables

once a day so probably not enough. I am still trying to figure out

the right amount.
