Guest guest
i guess the roundness of the original bite is what led the dr. to think spider bite. christopher once had 2 little red spots on face and woke with an entire side of his face looking burned red. it was cellulitis. my advice would be to make sure redness is NOT growing - even if you have to mark the outlines on his face. karen in dallas spider bites Nic has been sick for about 2 weeks now. Nothing major just that awful runny , yucky nose thing that he gets every winter. Monday night, however, after dinner we noticed a red circle right between his eyes. We thought maybe he banged his head but it kept getting bigger and it was warm. He woke up Tuesday morning w/ a 101 temp and his entire forehead and both eyelids red and swollen. I called the Doc and took him in thinking he had a killer sinus infection. He wouldn't take any meds for the fever or drink anything-he did eat 2 pcs of toast tho'-go figure. By the time we get to the Doc his temp is 103. I asked the Doc if he's ever seen a sinus infection so bad where it swelled the face. He said yes but when he looked in Nic's nose he said his sinus' are a little congested but definitely NOT infected. Then I told him about the red spot the night before. He concluded he was probably bit by a spider (Brown spider most likely). Has anyone ever had this happen? He prescribed an antibiotic for skin infections. Today the fever is gone but he's still red and swollen. I said he looks like a promagnum(sp) but MIL said he looks more like a Klingon. LOL I'm keeping him home one more day and hope that his eyelids at least go down so he can see. Di Click reply to all for messages to go to the list. Guest guest
Me, I had a spider bite that put me in the emergency room. Round red spot over my eye, my doc looked and saw two holes (fang marks) and concluded spider bite. Gave me antibiotics. Swelling continued, eye swelled shut, forehead swollen, ER doc says yep, spidey bite and gave me more drugs. Told me to watch site carefully, if tissue turned black, I would need to see specialist and plastic surgeon! Brown recluse spiders are very dangerous and their venom will kill the tissue around their bite. It took several months for my face to return to normal and I have a small scar where the spidey bit me that itches occassionally! My husband bought some things that plug into electrical sockets that make noise or vibrations that are supposed to repel the spideys .... our dog hates the things! Guest guest
Wow, that is scary Di. I do have a friend whose mom was bitten by a brown spider while she was visiting here in Philly. Glad Nic is better! So that is why he wasn't as swimming last night (it was SOOOOOO cold walking out of that pool to go home!).
Guest guest
Hi, I have been bitten at least three times by a brown recluse spider. They are a nasty customer. I was bitten in 1986, 1994, and 2000. The one in '94 was the worst. My leg swelled up like a balloon. Some scientists say the brown recluse spider carries more venom than poisonous snakes and that the smaller spiders are more lethal. Here in Missouri, brown recluses run rampant. Well, they don't run, they hide. They love in doors in dry places, closets, clothes, dresser drawers. You usually don't see them bite you or know you are bitten. Outside, they like it under rocks. All 50 states now have brown recluses (maybe not Alaska and Hawaii) but about 10 years ago this wasn't the case. A woman in southern Calif. was bitten by one and she didn't know what was wrong with her. She was almost dead before a doctor in Missouri heard something about her case and told his colleagues in Calif. he expected a brown recluse bite. Now those spiders are all over California too. Just be careful when putting on clothes that have been stored. Check the sleeves and turn them inside out first. Same goes for any materials like fabric and cloth. Guest guest
I had one. Personally, I never really saw a decline in the creatures that roamed our warm house. Heck... the cats did a better job at catching the mice than the electric thing did in keeping them away. Judi - Proud mother to Jordan 7, ds and Savannah 10 weeks, nda Where ever you go.... Guest guest
From what I understand we in Australia have more poisonous spiders and snakes than you do. At least we know when we have been bitten...... And ours can hide........In the older days when we had toilets outside, you used to have to lift the lid of your toilet to make sure there weren't any red backs under the toilet seat,a s allot of people copped bites on the bum.... Guest guest
Hi Mz Violet, I've seen some of those graphic photos. Pretty horrible! My understanding is that the brown recluse bite contains a poison, not a bacteria. Antibiotics will do absolutely no good for it unless doctors are trying to prevent other infections once the poison starts to kill your flesh. But the antibiotic won't stop the necrosis, which is probably far worse than anything a bacteria that sets in later will do. I did some research into the brown recluse a couple years ago. I have yet to see one (knock on wood). I hope I don't. But they do not spin webs. If you see a spider in a web it is not a brown recluse. Also, they will only bite when you have them cornered. So digging in the woods, you MAY get bitten. Just be careful. I think oil of oregano or coconut oil put on the skin will help. Another thing I've done for various skin ailments is save the grounds after I make pau d'arco tea. I then use the grounds in a poultice. My apartment has been overrun once again with little black spiders (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I don't know what they are but they seem to like me as a snack at night. The bites are not extremely poisonous but itch like mad for a while and are a nuisance. Zack On Fri, 25 Apr 2008, Violet wrote: > I just got a forward about Brown Recluse Spider bites. 'Didn't see anymore after that. I knew a chiropractor that lost his thumb because of a recluse spider. Maybe I will put some oregano oil in each vehicle too. Do they absolutely need refrigeration?
