Guest guest
Cathe... sounds like a load of bunk to me. My question is what HAVEN'T you tried???? Doug Another Reason Oil Pulling Can't " Detox " You As Promised We all know that " toxins " are real. No one is disputing that. But toxins that would be " attracted " to the oil used in oil swishing would be fat-soluble. (Because if they were water-soluble, they wouldn't be attracted to the oil.) And fat soluble toxins don't just run around freely in your bloodstream. They'd be stored in your body's fat cells. So ask yourself this one question: What makes oil swishing so special that it forces your body's cells to suddenly turn loose of all this stored toxic material? And what effect would this sudden dumping of toxins have on your body's natural filtering systems--the liver and kidneys? At least some of this pollution would reach them first, as those " toxins " head toward those large veins under your tongue. And that would tax your liver and kidneys pretty noticably, wouldn't it? Finally, since the toxins that would be circulatng in your bloodstream would be more likely to be water-soluble than fat-soluble, wouldn't swishing plain water for 20 minutes actually do a better job than oil at removing toxins? > > Does anyone on here oil pull? >

Guest guest
I just did a google search as you suggested and it was about the 6th article down. http://www.lisabarger.com/oil_pulling_debunked.html When I asked " what havent' you tried, " I was referring to the fact it seems like you've tried every alternative treatment on planet earth, even things like this I've never heard of! A few weeks ago, I finally read some information about it (had heard of it before, but never investigated) and we decided to try. My husband and I both really like it. We notice more benefits in the mouth, though, rather than detox. We like how it feels; our teeth feel cleaner and look brighter. Good jaw exercise, too. My husband does once a day, but I do twice. It's so easy; I just swish while I'm doing other things around the house. We use sesame oil (cold pressed; definitely not toasted) ... it seems to be the most highly recommended. I haven't tried olive oil... If it seems to be helping, then keep doing it It's simple and inexpensive. I plan to continue with it. in Tennessee
Guest guest
Doug, who the heck is Barger? What right does she have to debunk so many things; even though some are correct and others are very wrong? With sites like this we have to " consider the source! " I don't agree that oil pulling isn't helpful. Hopefully you are not consuming very much sesame seed oil, since it is high in Omega 6; you need to take 2,000 - 3,000 mg of omega 3 per day minimum to maintain a 1:1 ratio even without consuming oils high in omega 6. Guest guest
Do you seriously mean black? Cuz black can be not so good. Not trying to be ominous. Medium brown is best. Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who responded to my query about oil pulling. Nina, Thanks for sharing about your experience. I'm glad it works well for you. Doug, I *have* tried a lot of things in my quest for good health. I hope to help a lot of people someday so will need a broad base of experience from which to pull. , Sesame or safflower oil are recommended but, because they're not allowed on the diet, I went with what I had, which was olive oil. I wonder if the jaw exercise is (for me) also related to the feeling of well-being I get afterward. Bee, It does seem to help. I like the clear feeling I get in my head afterward. I think I'll stick with it and see how it goes. Also, we don't swallow the oil, so is it okay to use the sesame or safflower oil for the pulling? They are what is recommended by ayurvedic practitioners. Roxana, I'll have to stick with it. I'd like to feel clearer and cleaner too! Thanks again, everyone! Guest guest
Hi Cathe, In answer to your question about the kind of oil to use for oil pulling, I feel it is better to use olive oil or even coconut oil rather than sesame or safflower oil. Remember that oils gets absorbed through the mouth too, just like it does through the skin. Guest guest
Since there's been so much discussion I finally looked this up and it sounds like it is pretty easy to do as well as potentially very effective for detox. Because of it's potential effectiveness if someone is going to begin doing it, is there a certain stage of the diet that it'd be best to begin? Thanks so much! I decided to try oil pulling this morning with coconut oil, to see what would happen. Wow! I'm impressed. It certainly affected something because I started feeling mucus in my throat and nose while the oil was in my mouth. I had to resist the urge to cough. After spitting out the oil 15 minutes later, I coughed a lot, had to blow my nose, clear my throat and my eyes watered. I was over the sink clearing things out for awhile. I read the link to Barger's article that " poo-poohs " oil pulling, but the " proof is in the pudding. " What do you experience when you do it? Guest guest
Hi Bee and Cathe, I started three days ago w/coconut oil and was pretty amazed at how white the oil turns. I read that since the oil is so toxic you should spit it out in the toilet. I also am noticing an increased amount of mucus coming up as well as a few sensations in between my teeth while I'm swishing-pulling. I think it's a good habit to get into first thing along with tongue scraping and brushing your teeth. I'm also considering starting to use a Neti pot.

I'm going to try coconut oil tomorrow as I really think the olive oil might be tinging my teeth slightly yellow. I haven't been doing it every day lately as I (drum roll) started a part-time job this week so do not always have a lot of time in the morning before I go to work. But when I was doing it every day I noticed that I felt 'clear' in my face and head, like someone took a vacuum and got out all the 'dusties.' I also noticed a decrease in my allergic woozy feelings AND I was less hungry. Before oil pulling, I'd get woozy midway through the morning and now I don't do that. I also noticed a slight tickly/raspy feeling in my throat. Cathe

It is the single best health practice I have every tried. It is recommended to rotate oil type once every month if you notice that your teeth are no longer as white and/or you are not producing as much saliva when you pull as you used to. I rotate coconut oil (my favorite), untoasted sesame oil and untoasted walnut oil. I have tried olive oil, but my teeth became more yellow. Coconut oil is the best for teeth whiteing. Some of the changes I have noticed: very white teeth, pinker gums; soft skin instead of itchy, dry skin; Keratosis Pilaris (a skin condition) reduced by 90%; clear sinuses; end of seasonal allergies; better sleep; less ear wax (I don't know what that's about!); joint aches completely ended (before I needed ibuprofen to get to sleep because the aches kept me awake). I have first-hand reports of oil pulling ending TMJ, restless leg syndrome and menstrual cramps. Unfortunately, it has had no effect on candida. I wouldn't dismiss it's effect on candida--we don't know everything that's going on in these wonderful machines we inhabit! Also, thanks for the tip about the olive oil--I *thought* mine seemed to be getting a little yellow. I'll definitely try the coconut oil tomorrow. And I feel the same thing with the sinuses. I think, a lot of time, that my lifelong depression is related to sinus pressure. Anyone else entertained this idea? Cathe, another ©athleen.... But I will keep your hopeful words in mind. I would like to think that it may be helping fight the C monster. Re: sinuses and depression. You may be right. Surely depression doesn't appear all on its own. There have to be underlying causes. On the Cure Zone Oil Pulling forum, a number of people have reported OP having positive effects on depression. I hope you stay with pulling. Katheen
