Guest guest
I posted this question a couple of weeks ago and didn't see an answer. I know Bee recommends 2-5 billion per doese... not based on dairy and no preservatives, color or sweeteners, and no wheat gluten, soy, starch or yeast. I did a big order yesterday through vitaglo.com, and bought the Now brand Acidophilus... and now I see it contains potato starch. I bought 2 bottles. I also bought the Source Naturals 300mg freeze dried variety, but it doesn't say what other ingredients it contains, nor how many active cultures per capsule. Surely there's a common brand that fits Bee's criteria that most people use???? Thanks! Doug

Guest guest
By the way Doug, did you get the probiotic/acidophilus sorted out? I have done a lot of perusing on this and talked to some of the manufacturers, lab people who did the numbers, medical analyst folks, etc. There are the usual ones you can find in the Health Food Stores and places like iHerb.com (which are much cheaper for the same thing) and then the medical grade stuff you have to order from the manufacturers. The latter tend to have very high CFU amounts (up to 450 billion per dose) but you can dilute them down tremendously for extensive cost savings over other brands. Align is also medical grade, using B. infantis but with much lower CFU's than VSL or Custom Probiotics and not nearly as good value per Unit. Although the numbers of CFU's (colony forming units) are way higher than what Bee recommends, the two at the top of the pile from a medical probiotic standpoint (in my view) are VSL#3 (unflavored) and all of Custom Probiotics stuff. However, Harry at Custom Probiotics is not exactly a charmer, so be prepared to be put off if you try and converse with him. His formulas are pure and tolerant for autistic spectrum therapy and very sensitive folks. I have tried both, at the low concentrations equivalent to the retail ones and at the higher doses recommended. Did not have any noticeable effects either way but only did the high doses trials for three weeks in each case. Did not notice much from the retail brands either that I had taken for some years prior to starting Bee's diet. Those that seemed to have some tentative effect were Cuturelle and Jarrowdophilus. A few, with high proportions of Bifidus may have been a trigger for my highly enigmatic gut pain stuff. Not sure... Others of repute are supposedly Dr. Ohhira's (expensive) and PB8. The choices are endless. Hope this helps... Best M.
