Does anyone else have a “scalloped tongue”?

If you have " half moon " shaped indents on the front edge of your

tongue, I would be glad to hear from you.

These " scalloped " indents are imprints left by the tongue resting on

the teeth and are visible after a short period of rest when not

talking, chewing, moving the tongue around, etc. The medical

description is edema (slight swelling) or angioedema, though no

Western doc has ever given me more than a " dumb looks are free "

response as to why. Oriental medicine calls the condition " Wet or

Damp Digestion " and is clearly diagnostic for problems with the gut

and digestion.

I first noticed this pattern on my tongue around the time I had my

amalgam fillings removed in 1995. It was also at the time that I

finally got diagnosed with a heavy Giardia (parasite from

contaminated water) infection and was told to take Flagyl

immediately. Since then I have had this " scalloping " constantly and

know that it is an indicator that my gut is not right. The half moons

get bigger and my tongue gets more coated when I am having an

abdominal pain bout (which can last months), so I know there is a

link.

If anyone else has this I would like to know what ideas you have

about it and maybe when/how/why it appeared. I have often wondered if

it is a direct Candida effect, though did not see any changes when I

did many months of Nystatin and Diflucan some years back.

Best, M
