I bought Inner Health Plus and it doesn't say anything like you mentioned.

However, it does contain Colostrum Powder (Bovine).  Writing is just so small

on label, but maybe you can look at this in your local Chemist or Health shop

and advise.

[ ] Probiotics and oligofructose

Hi group,

I just realised the probiotics i've been taking contain oligofructose.

I haven't been able to find a brand in Australia that does not contain

this sugar derivative. A couple of naturopaths said the sugar is

necessary as food for the bacteria and shouldn't cause any problems.

Is this right?

Any others from Australia using anything different?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi ,

The jar I have is also Inner Health. If you read the ingredients you

will see it contains oligofructose, usually stated right underneath

the amounts of acidophilus etc. All Inner Health probiotics do.

Hi Matt. Those naturopaths are totally incorrect - see this article:

http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/pre2.php

FOS and inulin didn't exist when I cured my candida 20 years ago; I

think they are just a marketing ploy to sell products. Back then I

also took probiotics in the millions of units, whereas now they are in

the high billions. I also took powdered probiotics in water, and now

they claim stomach acid kills it, which is totally untrue. They are

simply marketing ploys and nothing else.

I read the very tiny print on back label this morning and my Inner Health Plus

as well as the bovine powder (lactose), contains maltodextrin. Oligofructrose is

not mentioned.

My bottles were reduced price from the chemist, so maybe clearing an older

batch.

Hi Bee,

I had a read of the article and also found a study that showed

increased intestinal yeasts with oligofructose supplementation

(Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (2000) 46, 603-612). The study

was administering 15g of the stuff, whereas my probiotic contains

300mcg per dose.

My question is, if oligofructose occurs naurally in garlic,

asparagus, etc and we don't need to avoid those foods, would such a

small amount be any more harmful than eating garlic or asparagus?

There do not seem to be any supplements in Australia that don't

contain this or some other sugar derivative, and taking cabbage

rejuvelac everywhere isn't an option.

When oligofructose is isolated as a substance it is all sugar,

however when it is contained in foods it is a co-factor of other

nutrients, enzymes, etc. in foods. Candida feeds off of all carbs,

but it is impractical to eliminate all of them.

You could order them online.

Oh my goodness Bee. Thanks for helping us sort out the truth from the

lies. I always thought I had to purchase Primal Defense because it was

the only probotic that made to to the colon. Seems to me I have wasted

countless dollars when a cheaper probotic would work just as well. I

too believed that they probotics were killed my stomach acid. Thanks

for helping us know what is true and what is not.
