Guest guest
Hi! I am hypo and pheoed and I have gained 60 lbs this last year and a half. All the time devoted to my vitamins and minerals and with good results for my cholesterol levels. Then I was told about a particular type of vitamin E...it is Vitamin E Plus Mixed Tocopherois, this has made a significant difference. My cholesterol dropped again to 77/65. This is considered excellent. Also it helped some of my neurological deficits from the pheo attacks. So on to my next trip.....controlling the pheo on my right side adrenal and getting my hypo under control and losing this dam weight. But I do believe the Vitamin E change was significant and wanted to pass it on..... Guest guest
, The BCP I am taking is : ORTHO-NOVUM 7/7/7 28 day Regimen It contains - White - .05 mg norethindrone and 0.035 mg. ethinyl estradiol light peach - 0.75 mg norethindrone and 0.035 mg ethinyl estradiol Peach - 1 mg norethindrone and 0.035 ethinyl estradiol. Green - inert ingredients. As for the comment on eliminating cholestrol... I found that eating fruits like : cantaloupes, honeydew, melons and lots of kiwis and eating lots of garlics can bring a lot down. Also, being on a diet and excercise can reduce them greatly. I will try the copper and other minerals... How much do I take the copper each day?? Guest guest
Hi Louise, In response to your trying to lose the weight, I have used the 3 day diet and they are excellent. They have helped me lose a lot of weight. A friend who has hypo also and she introduced me to this diet. She had lost over 40 lbs on this diet. I myself had lost over 35 lbs. For a while, I haven't been on the diet and recently started back on but it didn't work this time. For some unknown reason with my thyroid going crazy it must have hit the plateau. So, I am going to wait until January to start the diet again and see if I can lose some more weight. I have a lot more to go. But I know no diet is safe for everyone. If you and anyone on this board is interested in trying this diet. Just let me know. It contains eating: grapefruit, dry toasts, peanut butter, tuna, meat, string beans, beets, apple, eggs, banana, cottage cheese, crackers, chicken breast, broccoli, carrots, yogurt, cheddar cheese, cauliflower and cantaulope. Those are all healthy foods. You eat everything plain for 3 days and you can lose up to 10 lbs a week. Then you can eat anything you want for 4 days. I've lost 5 lbs each time. I don't diet every week but I usually do it twice a month to go slow so that I don't get gall stones... but keep in mind no diet is safe but keep in caution. If anyone is interested in trying it, let me know. Kozy ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
Kozy, I would like to try the diet. I used to be hyperT, but I've stabalized, and w/grad school I have not been able to excercise as much. I've gained about 5 lbs, and would LOVE to get rid of it. The diet sounds great. Please let me know the specifics. Thanks, AntJoan ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
, I am HYPOthyroid. I went on birth control pills in July. I am 36. Mine are called desogen --- which I presume is estrogen. I am on 200mcg of synthroid. I believe my doctor said she wanted to give me estrogen to release the fat in my system. Well I have not lost any weight probably gained some... But I feel so much better on it. Are BC pills good or bad for HYPO-thyroid people? When I mentioned pro-gesterone to my doctor she said stay away from it. --kathleen In a message dated 12/18/99 12:27:01 AM Eastern Standard Time, omarsmom@... writes: << At one time this subject came up, and I think addressed it in one of his email lists of things to avoid, but here goes. I finally got my bcp's out and was trying to figure out what the dosage was. Since they don't list the hormones as estrogen or progesterone, I had to do a search to find out what the listed amounts really were. I am taking Ortho-Novum 1/50 bcp, which means that is 1mg norethindrone (progesterone), and .05mg mestranol (estrogen). Now, I am no doctor, but from everything I have read and discussed in this and one other group, isn't this amount of progesterone high compared to the amount of estrogen-and should I maybe ask my gp to put me on something else? In recent posts I mentioned going to my endo on the 15th, and him telling me that if I indeed have GD, he wants to destroy my thyroid. I would like to do everything possible to avoid that happening. I did agree to another uptake and scan. Anyway, if anyone knows anything on the subject of birth control pills, and the dosage I am taking, please let me know. If it would help to either change pills, or go to some other type of HRT, I would be willing to try it. Thanks, >>
Guest guest
Dear Kathleen, Estrogen will probably cause you to gain weight. Progesterone usually is really good for hypothyroidism, as it speeds up the thyroid. AntJoan

Guest guest
Hi all, I am trying to decide whether or not I should get off birth control at this point. I've been on it for a year now, after taking a break from it for about a year. The first time that I got off birth control, I suffered from terrible cramps after I ate about 4 months after I stopped taking the pill. They were so strong that I had to lie down on my belly on the floor just to get relief. I was studying abroad at the time, and it was very difficult to be stuck in a play or on a field trip and have cramps like that. (They reminded me of the cramps I got from my period, just prolonged) About 2 months after I got home, I got my period back. Then, when I was diagnosed with cea, I decided to go back on, thinking that was the reason my skin went bad in the first place, but it hasn't improved. I want to get off the pill for good, but I'm worried the cramps will come back and that my hormones will get out of whack, making my skin even worse. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much, Kate

If you go off the pill there will be symptoms, but they are much less of a concern than the damage being done by the pill. If you get cramps after stopping them take megadoses of " true " vitamin A, called retinol, available from fish liver oils (shark, halibut, cod); take 90,000 IUs of it per day (spread into doses taken with meals that contain good fats and protein). This is a remedy recommended on the Weston A. Price Foundation - see this article: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/women7.php Take the vitamin A for 1 month, and then stop taking it for 2 days, and then continue on it for another month, and stop for 2 days. But don't continue taking that much forever. You probably won't need that much after about 3 months. Bioflavonoids can help too, which is a co-factor nutrient of vitamin C; my supplements list specifies a vitamin C supplement that includes it. If you are taking the recommended dose of 4,000 mg of that supplement you will be getting enough bioflavonoids. If you are not taking that amount yet, you can buy bioflavonoids separately and take 500 mgs twice a day along with vitamin C and meals. Let me know how you do. Guest guest
> > Hi Bee and group. Bee you have said in the past that the detoxification of hormones( birth control pills )takes " longer " . Does this mean that after I retrace the years that I took them, they will still be a problem? I just would like to understand this better, since I took birth control pills for nearly 10 years. > +++Hi kelly. I don't know how long it takes for hormones to clear out, so I can't say they would be gone after you retrace. Bee
