It is a sophisticated commissioning model and will be a guide for commissioning in England. At the moment, it is simply being "fine tuned" before publication. The Professional Lead for the Department is Nicholson and the document includes valuable insights from children and young people about their wishes, needs, and perceptions of school nursing. I wonder if next year's NMC review of the third part of the register, which even its CEO/registrar recognises is a 'shambles,' will begin the process of repairing some of the harm caused by that move? My nomination for the two biggest problems to have arisen as a result of that change are1. Substitution of people with other qualifications into the health visiting role (e.g. community staff nurses) with impunity, which has also been linked with the downturn in number of health visitors and2. The widespread belief that health visiting is a single role or job (ie, pre-school children and their families only), instead of a professional qualification associated with multiple different rolesWhat do others think?
